Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is teaming up with his Republican presidential primary rival, Donald Trump, to host an upcoming rally attacking President Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.
The event, which will be held in Washington D.C. on September 9, is one sign of Cruz's comfort with Trump. In fact, according to a recent report, Cruz might actually think Trump can help him win.
National Journal's Tim Alberta published a story Thursday that suggested Cruz and his team have a strategy to use Trump to their advantage. Alberta talked to Cruz, several of his allies, and experts who suggested the senator believes Trump will help activate the conservative base before ultimately fading.
"In the end, I think Trump will have generated the interestand then Cruz will benefit from it," Bill Stewart, a former chair of the University of Alabama's political-science department, said.
Alberta described this as Cruz's "endgame."

A Trump/Cruz ticket would generate HUGE amounts of conservative enthusiasm. If he got Ben Carson on board with a promise of Surgeon General or Secretary of HHS, then he would be unstoppable.
Once again- just asking— don’t you think he’s elevating Cruz?
I support Cruz- so, I’m very happy that Trump will bring his audience to this event.
But just objective politics— if I were way ahead in the polls, I don’t think I would give another guy this chance.
My sense is there’s more to it.
“Because Trump is considering Cruz for his VP.”
BINGO!
“Once again- just asking dont you think hes elevating Cruz?”
Cruz is a US Senator that is leading this effort. Trump joins Cruz on this issue or is left off the stage.
I think Trump is going to gage the reaction to them as a team.
My 2 cents. Trump really doesn’t like this Iranian deal and knows that Cruz knows the details of it. Cruz can lay out the treason of the deal, while Trump can name the traitors. Trump shows how he will use experts, no matter his personal rivalry, for the good of the country.
How Cruz could help Trump? The same way Trump helps Cruz. Either would be a great VP for the other, and each likely has designs on putting the other at the bottom of the ticket. They surely should campaign together. They are a dynamite team. However, much as I love Cruz, I do think Trump needs to be at the top of the ticket, with Cruz who will still be a young man, running for President in 8 years.
I would like to see Trump, Cruz, Carson and maybe one other on stage together with three key issues on the table. Then have a serious open talk on them. Asking each other questions.
One hour for each issue and 15 minutes for each on each issue.
Hi CJ, so you’re saying that Trump is auditioning to be Cruz’s VP??? -:)
(Just joking, Trump guys, don’t start insulting)
No matter what the explanation, having the leading candidate come to support Cruz- not only gives enormous credibility to Cruz, but it also brings an audience that Cruz would not have been able to generate himself.
And I’m certain The Donald knows that, and is seemingly ok with it——
Well Donald is a patriot-so, you could be on to something.
I am so glad they are doing this on a number of levels. In a sane world Trump would be a member of Cruz’s cabinet, but if Trump prevails and has Cruz to keep him on the Constitutional Conservative straight and narrow, I can live with that.
I suspect we'll soon know if The Donald is a Constitutionalist or not.
“I think Trump is going to gage the reaction to them as a team.”
Ding ding, ding, we have a winner! Trump is vetting a potential member of his administration. Just as he would if he were looking for someone for one of his businesses. And Cruz is, at this juncture, well advised to be looking at all the options. Trump might be his easiest path to the White House ultimately.
I said on July 16, and Mark Levin finally said last night, that McConnell should walk away from the Corker Bill and declare that the Senate will act alone on the deal as a treaty, especially now that Obama has already violated the terms of the Corker Bill several times.Trump could use the upcoming debate to talk about the Iran deal and pressure McConnell to take back control of the issue and make Obama get two-thirds of the Senate to ratify instead of making McConnell get one-third plus one to block it.
Levin said that McConnell won't do it, but maybe Trump could turn up the heat on the discussion and pressure McConnell into taking action, or to force McConnell to show once again why the weak excuse for leadership in Washington must be replaced by someone willing to take bold action to protect the country.
If McConnell won't then act to stop a nuclear Iran, what will it take to get him to do anything else in the national interest?

If Trump and Cruz can team up to destroy Hussein’s “Destroy Israel and Embolden the Mullahs” idea, they each would deserve enshrinement in the Great Americans Hall of Fame.
As much as I like Cruz as my first choice before Trump made his move,Cruz just couldn’t get the air time to make himself known nationally.
On the ticket with Trump, win or lose, he’ll get the air time he deserves, and then....
Yup, and if all works smoothly I bet they will team up as TRUMP/CRUZ and from then on always appear together on stage. That would be good as Cruz would be a sobering and steadying influence on Trump who is always close to going over the top....they gotta hold this thing together!
I think that team would be absolutely unbeatable.
