Donald Trump may be the GOP's last chance. He is a third party candidate within a major party. The Republican establishment was busy pushing moderates, while distancing themselves from people like Ted Cruz and Scott Walker. The Republican voters, who had endured McCain and Romney, and then went all-in for a Republican Senate majority, wanted no part of it. The voters feel that they have been let down. Trump, testosterone and all, has caught fire. Now even Cruz and Walker look weak by comparison. Trump has risen the bar.
No nonsense. That is what we are craving here in the hinterlands. That is what Trump offers. He is in many ways a creation of the Milquetoasts who run the GOP. Next stop, if Trump is stopped - third party.
Any distancing from Scott Walker was purely for show—as he was the Establishment’s preferred faux-conservative alternative.
He’s proven to be a mediocre campaigner, but it’s still early. They haven’t yet given up on slipping him by us.
