It is ridiculous that they are still wasting everyones time. Are they getting some financial reward to stay in?All candidates for federal office can draw salary AND benefits EQUAL to the office they are running for. The base salary for president is $400,000 a year, add in benefits, 'vacation time', 'sick time', etc.. So if you stay in the race (even if it is just on paper) for one year and one day, you're talking more than a million dollar payday from campaign funds.
So yes, there's a huge financial reward for staying in.

I think those already holding a federal office cannot draw that salary... so House, Senate, President don’t get paid for running... and even those that all allowed to draw the salary of the office they seek, it comes from their campaign coffers... at least I believe that’s the case... not from the taxpayers.
