Gallup: Hispanics Frown on Trump, but Not Rest of GOP Field
Gallup ^ | 08/25/2015 | Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, N.J. -- U.S. Hispanics are still getting to know most of the Republican contenders for president. At this point in the campaign, less than half have formed an opinion of any Republican candidate except Donald Trump and Jeb Bush. Partly because of this, Hispanics' views of most GOP candidates range from mildly positive to mildly negative. The sole exception is Trump, whose favorable rating with Hispanics is deeply negative.

Hispanics' Views of GOP Presidential Contenders, July-August 2015

Gallup began tracking the images of all the major announced candidates for president nightly in early July. Since then, 14% of the roughly 650 Hispanics interviewed have said they view Trump favorably, while 65% have viewed him unfavorably, yielding a net favorable score of -51. This separates Trump from the next-most-unpopular Republicans among Hispanics -- Rick Perry (-7), Ted Cruz (-7) and Jim Gilmore (-6), who are viewed far less negatively.

Bush presents the greatest contrast to Trump. Bush's average 34% favorable and 23% unfavorable ratings among Hispanics since July give him a +11 net favorable score -- the highest of any GOP candidate. The net favorable scores of Marco Rubio (+5), Carly Fiorina (+3), George Pataki (+3), Scott Walker (+2) and Ben Carson (+2) all tilt slightly positive, although none of these candidates is nearly as well-known among Hispanics as Trump and Bush.

In terms of familiarity, only Trump and Bush are recognized by a majority of Hispanics. Eight in 10 have formed an opinion of Trump and about six in 10 of Bush. Familiarity dwindles to roughly 40% for Rubio and Cruz, both Cuban-Americans, as well as for Perry and Chris Christie, but drops well below that for all the others. (See the full ratings in the tables at the end.)

The Free Stuff voters of all races will choose the candidates who are more generous with Other People’s Money. That’s not exactly news, Gallup.

“If you’re going to slam him for speaking a foreign language then at least correctly identify it as “Spanish” and not “Mexican”. I doubt Cuban-Americans think they speak “Mexican” at home.”

I did not identify any specific foreign language. I was referring to the principle, not the detail.

If you get 100% of the white vote you win. Stick your race politics up your burrito.

So Trump has about 30% of Republicans right now. How does that translate to 100% white vote? Sounds like you have your head up your burrito.

You can easily make up for not getting Hispanic votes by getting the white votes that stayed home for McAmnesy and Romney.

And I see them staying away in droves for Trump.

Any candidate that doesn’t majorly piss of Hispanics isn’t strong enough on immigration.

Build the wall.

You start pandering to skin tone and you lose.

Go to the DU where your type is welcomed.

I talk to individuals of both conditions where I work. Out of about 1300 employees at the shipyard perhaps a third are illegal with phoney paper. Another 20% or so are citizens with Latin background or Central American contract workers. Even a couple of the more articulate and intelligent illegals are mystified as to why the USA would do this to itself. They are happy it is happening but say they wouldn’t stand for it were they citizens.

I don't need a rookie telling me where I should go. I wasn't mentioning skin color like you were. Not insulting people is not pandering. If you notice Cruz's numbers, he has the same policies on immigration as Trump without all the negatives. Should I take my support for Cruz over to DU? I guess maybe I should in your eyes because he is Hispanic.

Otherwise they like the people that pander to them at the expense of the rest of the population.

Cruz is an H-1B pimp.

Ted Cruz wants to increase H-1B visas from 65,000 to 325,000 annually

When MexicanAmericans are more Mexican than American we are really in trouble.

They are truly low information voters.

They will vote self interest rather than long term common good, like all low information voters.

Therefore, Mexican American voters must be reminded that a vote for increased immigration or retention of illegals of any kind will destroy their very own American Dream and the hopes and dreams of their own children and grandchildren.

They are low information, but not stupid.

Educate!!!!!!
