The notion that women are the weaker sex and need the knights in shining armor to rush to the rescue.
Fact is, most incoming women freshmen have probably already made note of the fraternity and plan to attend one of their autumn parties once daddy drives back to his suburban home.
Toga! Toga! Toga!
The absurdity in comedic movies isn’t the stuff we turn our society into. I enjoyed parts of Animal House and parts I didn’t.
If you’re married, love your wife, have young children, are struggling to create a good life for them, some things just don’t seem quite as funny as they did at 18-20.
I’m reminded of a movie back in the 80s where it introduced young guys to ripping women’s tops off in public. It was supposed to be real funny. Then guys in Palm Springs on Spring Break decided to do it for real. They wound up in jail on sex related charges, had to register as sex offenders and check in every so often.
I’m just saying a little common sense goes a long way.
Those signs weren’t funny in real life. In a movie, perhaps, for some people.
“You can’t hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.”
“I, along with several of my brothers, would take up positions outside the freshman womens dorms on check-in day and offer to help carry their stuff in as a courtesy.”
That’s what my son’s fraternity does. They help freshman, girls move in. Their sisters do the same thing for the boys. Since the dorms are co-ed it makes the kids transitions easier and less intimidating.
My son’s freshman year we brought him up to school to help him move in and get adjusted. Turned out my wife and I as well as my son’s roommates parents set up the room and the boys were already downstairs helping out the freshman girls.
They figured it out quick.
When I graduated in 2009, whe had so good comedians come to campus. Last year I looks at the student events website and no such shows were posted, just a bu ch of feel good PC speakers.
Oh, good grief! It’s college, for Pete’s sake. This is just standard fare for frats, and has been going on for generations. The critics need to take a chill pill.
#1 - these guys are assholes
#2 - these guys date a lot
#3 - if your daughter didn’t act like a pig who was interested in these guys, they wouldn’t be hanging signs
That’s pretty hilarious. PC world has no sense of humor anymore.
So, let’s suppose Bill Clinton was coming to the university to make a speech, and the frat boys hung out a banner saying “Apply Here for Bill Clinton Internships” or something similar. Would you not consider that to be funny either?
Good grief. Put a chastity belt on your daughter and never let her out of the house.
Better yet, tell her not to go near a fraternity house.
These clowns should be thrown out of college for “STUPIDITY” and “BAD TIMING”.
“It’s not going to be an orgy.”
To be honest, I would consider that an educational moment.
It could be seen as warning young women to remember what kind of a perv he was.
Some folks may not see a distinction, but I believe one exists.
“Well we’re not going to sit here, and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.”
Mmm...*Verna Bloom*....
Probably the latter.
if they were blaring rap music out the windows at 110 decibels with f bombs and mother f bombs it would have been ok.
Do you believe in wives cheating on their husbands?
Do you think thy should come back, stop off and have some fun with the boys?
Is that a Conservative values system?
Look, either we believe in the sanctity of marriage or we don’t. I understand what goes on on university campuses. I don’t believe there’s much you can do about it.
On the other hand, I think this kind of thing is very crass. Why should the administration accept this kind of behavior out of groups affiliated with the University?
All in the name of good fun? Really?
You think other members of the community shouldn’t be able to a negative opinion and push back on stuff like this?
It’s been going on at colleges forever and will continue to go on forever.
