How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico
By John Dillin JULY 6, 2006
Save for later WASHINGTON George W. Bush isn't the first Republican president to face a full-blown immigration crisis on the US-Mexican border. Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America's southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond. President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Take 90% of the Border Patrol and audit businesses for their I-9 forms and photo copy of employees photo ID and SS card.
If they can’t provide them fine them the maximum and jail time for a second offense.
Include homeowers that pick them up on a street corner..
A few dozen doing jail time and the illegals will self deport.
Durring Eisenhowers time the L.A. area there were Border Patrol agents raiding businesses 5 days a week and illegals didn’t last more than 2 weeks.
Wouldn't it be a shame if he got nabbed by the Border Patrol and deported.
Problem is the employer is not responsible for the validity of ID shown by an applicant.
Forged ID business is flourishing.
Other than being a noob, whats your excuse for the consistently fatuous GOP-e propositions you are always posting as solutions to this serious problem?

I didn’t realize I was so fatuous. I’m not even sure what that means in this context. But if being on FR for a lengthier time will get me properly educated, I hope it comes quickly. At 72, I don’t have a lot of time left.
Two words. Armed drones. And don’t be afraid to use them. America is going to have to do something to get a little respect back.
Hey...I’ll answer the same I did when this was posted in 2007
Lets call it Operation Adios Amigos
Give everybody long bamboo poles ..spread em out in a line and start beating the bushes ala The Apes flushing out the humans hiding in the bush...in Planet of the Apes.
“Citizen, show me your papers.”
Considering 80 to 90 percent of illegals in California live in deep poverty and are probably on the dole, more than likely they’re crammed into a house under someone elses name. They will not last long.
“The rank-and-file American was a different breed in Eisenhowers day.”
As were presidents. Eisenhower could step on and squash Dorkbama the Muslim.
But he had far too much integrity and would have simply deported the lying SOB back to the third world hell hole of his choice.
LOL. It’s not about SWAT forces. We are INCENTIVIZING them to come here. It’s not Mexico’s fault, it’s simple economics. We have policies and a system that rewards people for coming here this way. Anyone hear of market forces. They are working, again. So talk about walls and SWAT members are missing the point. As long as we have a system that pulls them here, they will come. We end that, and it will stop.
“And campaigning against those knowingly employing illegals is, how you say, vote-getting averse.”
For any of them but Trump!
Unless you make it a CRIMINAL offense to hire illegal, nothing works.
Given the Obama precedent, it can be done by executive order on Day One of the new presidency.
Since something on the order of 40% of the illegals didn’t swim the Rio Grande, but rather came here on tourist visas and just didn’t go home. Seems like we should have some record of these people, and they would not likely be able to get a hearing before being deported. That coupled with e-verify, and a lot of them would go voluntarily.
As someone else posted, we could still be going business by business unannounced, and forcing them to terminate anyone who isn’t legally authorized to work. And the parting message S/B, “we will be back for a followup visit and things will be very different for you if any of these people are back working here.”
I suggest reading the Fourth Amendment for what it says. Such "audits" are wildly unconstitutional.
That would be nice except for this fact. An employer is not allowed to ask a potential hiree if they are really legal. All the potential hiree has to show is two pieces of I.D., with one being a picture I.D. If an employer violates that rule, he/she is subject to fines and a lot of lawyer fees.
Furthermore, the fake papers are so good that even the authorities can't discern if said papers are legitimate or fake. In the State of Washington, an employer does not dare to hire under the table. If that person is injured while on the job, you can bet your bottom dollar that L&I, Labor and Industries, will be on you like smell on stink. And, it never is pretty.
I’d like to see Trump do something similar. Build the wall, of course. Then round them up and take them south, clear to the southern Mexico border on slow boats on rough seas. Make it miserable enough that they NEVER want to go through it again. No more cushy jet flights with hot and cold running flight attendants.
Just fine the employers’ butts off in addition to rounding up the illegals and shipping them south, on slow boats over rough seas.
We could do three things if we have the courage.
Enforcement, deportation, remove the lure.
Whole heartedly agree.
No need for reformation except for the bureaucracy in getting Citizenship.
For instance. My bil is married to a Chinese woman for 20 years, 3 kids born on US soil. She does not have US Citizenship. Wants to do it legal and left when here Visa expired (green card) and now is trying to get back in to get her US Citizenship.
Has been over a year that she has been separated from her family. She could have lied while she was over here and would have been a snap but she did it legally and left Country.
The lie would have been she came here to be married not to work. Even though her Visa was for WORK.
I did speed things up for them. Contacted Ted Cruz’s office and he was able to move their package up and got it moving again.
