Real estate mogul Donald Trump said on Sunday he is not intimidated by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, given his fellow GOP presidential candidates handling of the Badger State.
Well, Im not worried because his state is really in trouble, Trump told host George Stephanopoulos on ABCs This Week.
I mean, its a fantastic place, he said. I love the people of Wisconsin, but if you look at whats going on, they have a $2.2 billion deficit. They were supposed to have a surplus of $1 billion and they have $2.2 billion.
Theres tremendous divisions throughout the state, Trump added. He stopped a lot of work because he didnt want to raise taxes. So instead of raising taxes, hes borrowing to the hilt and his state is overleveraged.
Trump then argued Walkers handling of Wisconsin is proof he would fare no better managing the U.S.
His state has not performed well, he said. We need someone whos going to make it perform well, this country perform well.
Im the one to do it, the outspoken billionaire added. And people are seeing it and it is being reflected in the polls.
Trumps remarks come as he leads the race for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination across multiple national samplings.
He additionally mocked Walker on Sunday for trying to emulate his positions.
Scott Walker has changed his mind now, because he keeps going to his pollster, and his pollster says, Oh, Trump has a good idea, Trump has a bad idea, oh no, wait a minute, Trump has a good idea, Trump said.
These people dont know what theyre doing, George, Trump told Stephanopoulos. Theyre politicians.
Also, according to this link, it sounds like Trump is right on schools and Walker totally screwed them up, and Walker is totally in favor of Common Core. Trump is going to pick these guys off one by one until the GOP is completely embarrassed and destroyed.
I want a lot more than that, but to do it we must win the general. Being caught on the record repeating bogus claims like this is not the way to set yourself up to win the general. It is intemperate and foolish. All but the obsessively love-struck will see through his act, hopefully before it's too late.
You see, I don't trust Donald Trump at all. I think he's telling a bunch of dupes what he knows they want to hear. When the courts tell him he can't do things the way he wants, do you want him acting like Emperor Xero? Worse, Trump can obviously turn on a dime, and you may not like the direction at all.
The worst indication is that the amount of air time the Donald is getting. This means the media love him, and that's the worst sign of all. It's cutting off the oxygen to every conservative downstream of those electrons.
No, as far as I can tell, he's a dishonest huckster, and as far as I am concerned his followers are Dupes for Donald.
It is true that Walkers administration projected a $1 billion surplus but faces a $2.2 billion deficit. A story in the Chicago Tribune late last month said:
It wasnt long ago that the forecasting arm of the Wisconsin legislature was predicting that state government by mid-2015 would be flush with a surplus topping $1 billion, which Gov. Scott Walker could have showcased in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Today, that projected surplus has morphed into a $2.2 billion budget deficit that Republican lawmakers are struggling to fix.http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/wp/2015/07/27/is-donald-trump-right-about-what-gov-scott-walker-did-to-wisconsin-schools
You do have a point. But OTOH it would seem that Trump is exposing ALL OF THEM, GOP and RAT. So if its working, let it be. I used to be so excited about Cruz even tho all he MIGHT be able to do is slow the rate of destruction to our country. But if there is possibly someone who has the ability to turn it all around,....sorry Ted..
Ted Cruz just played it too safe. I don’t think therefore that I can count on him to be bold later if he’s not bold now.
Thats it? You post crap.
Blue N Gold is stepping you through Wisconsins budget process. You posted Step 1 as a criticism of Walker. The same criticism we get from lefties all the time.
You know where part of the surplus went???
It went to a MASSIVE TAX CUT!!! Thats conservative governance.

and if you really want to get in the weeds that last budget did end with a surplus...
after reducing debt and giving taxpayers a massive tax cut.

So lets drill it down...
Basic facts.
This year the Wisconsin government forecast a $2.2 Billion dollar deficit, thats true.
However, by law WI must have a balanced budget, so the various departments and the legislature have undertaken to make cuts in order to balance the budget.
So the deficit will not materialise after the new budget is passed, but they have less to work with than projected previously, meaning cuts and stopping some programs/projects.
.
Now for opinion.
Outright lie? I dont think so.
Until the new budget is enacted, technically WI does face a deficit.
Will that deficit be reflected in the new budget? Clearly not.
Was the previously projected surplus realised, no, clearly not.
Has Walker done some laudable things with regards to reform? Absolutely.
Have all of his projections for financial prosperity been realised yet? No. Just look the 90s. Clinton got credit for the Reagan reforms. It takes time to see results.
However, in 2014 Walker very public touted the coming surplus, and it disappeared. How and why it disappeared is a reasonable point of discussion.

So you persist in posting those lies despite being corrected?
******While there were many concerns brought up throughout the budget process - some of which still exist - the guts of this budget are a win for Wisconsin taxpayers. It could have been better, but on the whole, it keeps the state moving in the right direction.
There are no new taxes. There are no tax increases. Bonding is at its lowest level in recent memory. Major education reform plans were included. And prevailing wage was repealed at the local level and reformed at the state level.

I agree with that. But it has to work both ways. The criticisms of Trump, from many Republicans and many of them very unfair, also have to be toned down.
I would love to see a truce among Republicans. But you know it's not going to happen. It's all wishful thinking.
——Walker is totally in favor of Common Core
Walker LINE ITEM VETOED common core in the Wisconsin budget.

——Walker totally screwed them up
Wisconsin is SECOND IN THE COUNTRY on ACT scores.

If Trump simply lies about all of his opponents, it will end badly.
Oh cmon Walker is becoming Trump’s mini me. He has no clue what he thinks or believes he just waffles around from one day to the next hoping to stumble on a winning answer to something. Its pathetic. Scott Walker is in no way, shape or form prepared to be President of the United States and most people have realized it which is why he is fading to black.
It could be. But he’s been hard line on the border/immigration issue.
But as far as turning on a dime, I think they all would. Possibly not Cruz, who appears to be the singular embodiment of Mr. Smith.
But he’s polling in the fives. He may be popular on FR but the rest of the population hasn’t heard of him. That’s how stupid the people in this country are now.
Ted Cruz against Hillary Clinton would be a slaughter. The Nice Guy up against Lucrezia Borgia.
So that’s what we gotta have. A verbal street fighter.
Maybe we should work on his VP pick. Then when he gets bored with being President, he can resign and we get the guy we really wanted.
But it’s to Trump’s eternal credit that he has made Mexican illegal immigration THE issue in America.
None of the squeamish Establishment types did that. If they had, he wouldn’t even be a player.
It could all be a con. Maybe he and Mr. Bill are running the game. But the dam has been busted: none of them can run away from the immigration issue now, and the Bush’s and their clingers have been exposed for the anti-American Mexophiles they are.
I don't think the electorate(and of course Leftists love this - see, tax cuts don't work) have the patience.
I just wish Trump was more supportive in the understanding and his statements.
If Walker can't defend himself against Trump saying this (and his campaign is so far failing to do so), how would he ever defend himself against Hillary?
Trump is weeding out the weak sisters early - a boon to the GOP's chances next November, whether he is the nominee or not.
Just look at his speech in Alabama on Friday. He was trashing the insurance companies as bad as any leftist Democrat. He was pointing out that insurance companies are the reason for preventing competition across state lines for lower prices.
And, speaking of leftist democrats, how insurance companies were sitting at the Obamacare table WITH Obama. You call that bashing insurance companies, so be it.
Every time the subject of insurance comes up, I'm reminded of what my attorney said of MY insurance co.
"YOUR insurance company is NOT YOUR FRIEND".
Single issue voters can’t see the forest for the trees. We have more than one major problem facing us today and we must work on all of them not just one.
One nuclear device set off by North Korea or Iran is potentially much worse than all the other problems. And what Planned Parenthood is doing is worse.
Oh, they don’t care about facts. They wouldn’t be backing Trump if they did.
It really won’t matter what Iran or North Korea does when the United States is just another failed state of the remnant Spanish Empire.
Shouldn't be too surprising considering Trump proposed the largest tax increase in human history not that long ago.
Walker took on government labor unions in their place of origin and beat them. Wisconsin is actually doing quite well and whole heck of a lot better than it was.
On a related note - thousands of FReepers will now begin embracing the writings of Paul Krugman, and quoting Thomas Piketty with abandon.
Trumpsters see in Trump whatever they want to see. It's populism mixed in with a cult of personality. Trump has been out yammering on about rebuilding infrastructure. We just did that with the stimulus and conservatives considered it socialist nonsense, now that Trump proposes it many apparently approve.
Like I said, Trumpsters see in Trump what they want to see - not what is there. They will support almost anything he proposes simply because they think they know where his heart is and that he is "one of them".
