Real estate mogul Donald Trump said on Sunday he is not intimidated by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, given his fellow GOP presidential candidates handling of the Badger State.
Well, Im not worried because his state is really in trouble, Trump told host George Stephanopoulos on ABCs This Week.
I mean, its a fantastic place, he said. I love the people of Wisconsin, but if you look at whats going on, they have a $2.2 billion deficit. They were supposed to have a surplus of $1 billion and they have $2.2 billion.
Theres tremendous divisions throughout the state, Trump added. He stopped a lot of work because he didnt want to raise taxes. So instead of raising taxes, hes borrowing to the hilt and his state is overleveraged.
Trump then argued Walkers handling of Wisconsin is proof he would fare no better managing the U.S.
His state has not performed well, he said. We need someone whos going to make it perform well, this country perform well.
Im the one to do it, the outspoken billionaire added. And people are seeing it and it is being reflected in the polls.
Trumps remarks come as he leads the race for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination across multiple national samplings.
He additionally mocked Walker on Sunday for trying to emulate his positions.
Scott Walker has changed his mind now, because he keeps going to his pollster, and his pollster says, Oh, Trump has a good idea, Trump has a bad idea, oh no, wait a minute, Trump has a good idea, Trump said.
These people dont know what theyre doing, George, Trump told Stephanopoulos. Theyre politicians.
LOL. Seems like DT is calling them like he sees them. Scott Walker does that as well. Assuming he can figure out where he sees them. Such as with birthright citizenship.
He’s for it! No he’s against it! No he’s for it!
Scott Walker: he’s for stuff, unless he’s against it.

That’s my take away. Walker’s bad because work needed to be done and he didn’t raise taxes to do it.
It wasnt long ago that the forecasting arm of the Wisconsin legislature was predicting that state government by mid-2015 would be flush with a surplus topping $1 billion, which Gov. Scott Walker could have showcased in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Today, that projected surplus has morphed into a $2.2 billion budget deficit that Republican lawmakers are struggling to fix.

Hes calling them like Democrats sees them.
Wisconsin is a STELLAR example of conservative government with reduced taxes, balanced budgets, reduced unemployment and so one of OUR TEAM throws rocks at it. What model of government is Trump going to use?
But then Trump wouldn’t be the anti-PC guy anymore.
Remember, if people attack him, he’ll run 3rd party. But it is his job to attack everyone else because he’s anti-PC.
Agreed. This is where Trump has to now demonstrate he can pick up on stuff like this and make cogent arguments. He could have easily just said that Walker doesn’t understand where he stands on immigration and blasted him that way.
The fact a “businessman” like Trump isn’t aware of how well a conservative like Walker has done fixing massive fiscal problems doesn’t speak well of Trump. Wisconsin had a higher debt per capita than California before Walker took over. Unlike Jerry Brown, Walker balanced the budget by cutting government spending and actually lowering taxes.
It was an amazing feat that no one else in the US has done to my knowledge.
I’ve been for Sen. Cruz since the get-go ..
Reagan attacked a sitting Republican president helloooooooooooo.
And we passed a balanced budget that still cut taxes AGAIN. That PROJECTED deficit was a study run by the liberals before the budget process, you know, actually produced a balanced budget without raising taxes.
Done what? This is a state, not the federal government, they have limited options. Are you suggesting he should have raised taxes?
So let’s drill it down...
Basic facts.
This year the Wisconsin government forecast a $2.2 Billion dollar deficit, that’s true.
However, by law WI must have a balanced budget, so the various departments and the legislature have undertaken to make cuts in order to balance the budget.
So the deficit will not materialise after the new budget is passed, but they have less to work with than projected previously, meaning cuts and stopping some programs/projects.
.
Now for opinion.
Outright lie? I don’t think so.
Until the new budget is enacted, technically WI does face a deficit.
Will that deficit be reflected in the new budget? Clearly not.
Was the previously projected surplus realised, no, clearly not.
Has Walker done some laudable things with regards to reform? Absolutely.
Have all of his projections for financial prosperity been realised yet? No. Just look the 90s. Clinton got credit for the Reagan reforms. It takes time to see results.
However, in 2014 Walker very public touted the coming surplus, and it disappeared. How and why it disappeared is a reasonable point of discussion.
OMG we have to go through that again?
2.2 Billion was an unconstrained budget projection by all the departments. By definition it included ZERO revenue growth. We had a projected budget process and the legislature passed, per the Constitution, a BALANCED budget. The borrowing in that budget the smallest in DECADES.
You know many states dont even do a budget forecast in this manner? It just leads to crackpot accusations like this.
In the last budget (which began with an EVEN LARGER FORECAST DEFICITI) Walker reduced debt, gave a massive TAX CUT and still ended with a surplus.
Thanks for informing us what the liberal Washington Post is spouting against Walker.
Read Bluengld’s post.
Just a minor quibble. The forecast was from the Wisconsin Legislative Audit Bureau. However, it is a budget exercise of questionable value. Only about half the states even run through an unconstrained forecast.

That explains why the commercial hasn’t been made.
What do I want....
There’s only one issue with me at this point in history, and that’s the Mexicanization of America, and thus the end of the Great Experiment in self government.
The mass invasion of the violent and corrupt masses from the crude disaster area next door will be the end of the relatively serene, prosperous country I grew up in and my ancestors were integral in creating.
Mr. Walker was timid and non-comittal about the point to start with, until Mr. Trump had the stones to go against all the PC speech monitors and come out hard on this.
Walker did change after going to Texas and talking with Abbott. But...isn’t that what people are criticizing Trump for? “Evolving”?
So Trump plays for keeps. He’s gonna lob stones over the wall. He castigated Little Miss Blonde Babe for trying to pull the old “when did you stop beating your wife” gig on him.
In his neck of the woods that’s what you do. And that’s what he’s doing to Walker. And Bush. Because he clearly plans to win. And against an ordinary criminal like Hillary Clinton, that’s what you MUST do.
They’re free to hit back.
So you swallow the Washington compost uncritically?
Do you get that Wisconsins Constitution requires a balanced budget? Do you understand forecasting processes?
The left will never give credit to Walker for showing how successful conservative governing principles have been.
******While there were many concerns brought up throughout the budget process - some of which still exist - the guts of this budget are a win for Wisconsin taxpayers. It could have been better, but on the whole, it keeps the state moving in the right direction.
There are no new taxes. There are no tax increases. Bonding is at its lowest level in recent memory. Major education reform plans were included. And prevailing wage was repealed at the local level and reformed at the state level.

If you are a real conservative, you should identify with Walkers success and try to have your state emulate it.
Trump needs to start toning down his criticism of Republicans. Instead he should direct most of his critism towards Obama, Hillary, and the failed Democrat policies that have created the humongous debt, millions out of work, an increase in welfare/poverty, and a decrease in income for the middle class.
Here's an economic lesson for someone who calls himself a conservative: any work that was stopped was being paid for by tax money taken from private business. As such, it was a drain on the economy.
Government spending -- no matter how much apparent work it generates -- is a loss. I can't believe I'm having to explain this on FR. Shows how economically ignorant even conservatives are becoming.
