In elementary school, we sang “Pick A Bale of Cotton”. Oh boy.
I just taught it to about 40 kids at a campground. They loved it, of course. (Leadbelly is the best.)
My father told me a story a while back than when he was 5 or so he’d visit his grandfather’s farm where sharecroppers were picking cotton. He went out in the field to help and the black pickers laughed at him because he couldn’t drag the cotton bag along the ground.
