....”You’re getting sucked in by a demagogue”....
If that were true, which it isn’t because demagogues appeal to only the lower social classes of a society, then how do you account for the many who are of every social class supporting Trump?
We are indeed witnessing a historical movement in this election...and Trump is what is driving this...President or not he is the driving force that is what’s bringing the people out and Trumps simply telling them what’s been happening...that they already knew but have somebody that’s calling it as they know it to be..... That is NOT a demagogue. Trump is not exploiting the people....
Trump could be termed a demagogue in the broadest definition of the word, because he clearly is dealing with people’s desires, and perhaps even prejudices.
But he does use rational arguments, which a demagogue does not. The main thrust of his speech was that this election is not about electing someone “nice,” rather someone “competent.”
And as if he were sitting across the table from you and me, he explained that our problem isn’t free trade, as much as it is a need to be better negotiators. His conclusion is that he has far more experience and competence than his opponents in cutthroat negotiation.
His implication is that he would use those skills in each area of problems he has brought to the surface.
