To: Laissez-faire capitalist
many thousands of people—some now adults—who have lived all their lives in America would suddenly find themselves stateless.

Nothing stateless about them. They're citizens or subjects of wherever they snuck in from. What's hard about that? They'll go back there with a boatload of skills, sophistication, and contacts here that will give them a huge advantage in their home country. I don't see what's not to like.

Okay, there's one thing. That scenario I just sketched probably applies to many of the gangsters as well.

So if they were born to illegal aliens even 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 years ago (or even 1 year ago) you are saying that they never had citizenship in the first place or that they should have it stripped away from them if they have papers that say they are a U.S. citizen?

. . . And I don’t think there’s a choice about the principle applying to anchor babies as well. Sometimes you have to move. Happens all the time throughout history. The smart, energetic ones will find a way to prosper, or maybe improve their home countries.
