ATLANTA A family is recovering after a violent home invasion. The father has a metal rod in his leg and is expected to be OK.
Whitney Lash says a group of teens burst through the front door of her Sumter Street home in northwest Atlanta Sunday.
She made a terrifying 911 call made just moments after the home invasion.
"Theres a black young man at the front door. He just pulled a gun on my husband."
The group, who tried to rob the family, shot Mike Lash in the leg and then fired at Whitney Lash as she ran with her baby in her arms.
"Our investigators are continuing to gather information, said Atlanta Police spokesman Officer Ralph Woolfolk. At this point, we have gathered fragments as well as bullets and sent those off to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for analysis.
Police released a sketch Wednesday afternoon of one of the suspects they are looking for in the case.
The incident has many in the neighborhood on edge. Those fears were the focus of a community meeting Tuesday night at Fire Station 28 on Hollywood Road, not far from where the attack happened.
It is scary when you're not used to it," Don Penovi told Channel 2s Carl Willis. "We're kind of in a transition area. We get stuff like this, but they get it in Buckhead. They get it everywhere."
Neighbors told Willis they were glad there was a big turnout for the meeting.
"What I really liked, I don't know if it was what I heard, but I thought I saw, it was a really well attended meeting," Penovi said. "We've got to have continued pressure on the police to come out here."
On a GoFundMe page set up to help the family, Whitney Lash wrote, in part:
"Mike's words are still echoing in my mind as he was bleeding profusely and in excruciating pain on our floor. The amazing police and EMT were working on him while he was proclaiming Luke 23:34 'Forgive them Father, they know not what they have done. His immediate grace and forgiveness for others in the midst of life and death is a constant reminder for me as I feel anger trying to creep in.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
Wonder what the home invasion rate is in Kennesaw, where people are required to keep guns for protection?
You decided that it was dumb decision. Do know if he's been unemployed long or just for a week.
Your post is another knee jerk evaluation from someone who thinks they are better than everyone else. You have all the answers and you can judge someone's character by a sentence, written by someone else, about that person.
I had already contributed $25 yesterday. Congrats you doubled my donation.
I love unintentional irony and your post is full of it.
I don't know and I'm sure the MSM will never publish it.

Props to you...the family needs it. I was going to make a $10 donation but you got my blood up a bit so I pumped it up a bit (and will likely hear from my wife when she sees it).
Maybe that was your intention all along...FReepers are a clever and devious bunch. Just kidding...Peace, brother.
Do you have any idea if the husband works in banking? We’ve had TWO incidences in Knox County this year where the husband is an executive or something in banking (Smart Bank and TVA Credit Union in Oak Ridge). Both times, there was a home invasion, the family was kidnapped, and there is an attempted extortion. The first time, something fell apart, and their mission was aborted. The 2nd time was much more successful. It hasn’t been disclosed how much money was actually stolen (unless, I just missed it).
In that hell called atlanta, a 3 day long “vacation” after a 6 hour drive trip to Biloxi Ms. would be a vacation. And if the casinos have a suspicion you have any money, they offer free rooms.
a hunnert thou might get a posse with rope...
The better ones in the Atlanta area that are not subsidized by a church cost between $15,00 and $20,000 per year per child. Even some of the religiously affiliated schools (like Marist) cost upwards of $18,000. The Catholic diocese schools are typically the least expensive.
is that a jewel embossed in the homey ‘s forehead? New trend or was he having to rob for the grillz he desperately needs...
I thought it was an aiming point.
Thanks for admitting you were wrong.

I was just mentioning the “economy” class pricing. Good schools in Atl and elsewhere in the US are priced outta sight for the average family.

Supposedly the husband was between jobs. But it does sound like they were targeted for some reason.
