Donald Trumps immigration plan is huge in every aspect including its price tag.
Think $166 billion. And thats on the low end.
The Republican business mogul is turbocharging his tough-on-illegal-immigration reputation that hes used to ride to the top of the GOP presidential polls by pushing to deport everyone here illegally, ramping up immigration enforcement and even calling for an end to birthright citizenship. Hes managed in the process to pull the GOP field to the right on an issue that could be critical in the general election and cause plenty of heartburn for party bosses still experiencing flashbacks from Mitt Romney damaging call for self-deportation in 2012.
As far as immigrations concerned, we need the wall, Trump said on NBCs Meet the Press Sunday, the same day he unveiled his proposal on his website. We want people to come in. I want people to come in. They have to be wonderful people. They have to come in legally.
But Trump has said little about how much his plan would cost or how hed pay for it, other than a dubious assurance hed make Mexico foot the bill for the wall.
So with help from experts at groups spanning the political spectrum the National Immigration Forum, the Center for American Progress, the Migration Policy Institute, the Cato Institute and the American Action Forum POLITICO rang up the cost of key provisions in Trumps immigration proposal. Heres how it breaks down.

A serious wire transfer fee would cover a lot of that...
Oh, all of a sudden Liberals know how to add up the cost of a proposed Government program.
So? What happened to the money set aside for the wall years ago? That was most likely wasted.
Chicken feed.
When the very existence of our nation which is at stake.
Current regime debt tab: seven trillion. Why is that never mentioned?
Maybe if none self deport. But compared to healthcare, free legal service for alien criminals, costs of incarceration, bilingual/education costs, and welfare ? Are you kidding me ?
See, see you mean-old right-wing FReepers? Liberals DO care about wasteful big-government spending! < /S >
What’s the cost without his plan?
Money well spent, that will pay dividends over the years in reduced crime rates, reduced welfare dependency, and better employment prospect for actual CITIZENS of these United States.
Take it out of the EPA and BATFE budgets.
TOUCHE!
It’s a hell of a sight cheaper to throw them out than to keep them in. Only the most obtuse or the agenda driven among us would argue otherwise.
Eisenhower did it in the 1950s for almost nothing. This number is grotesquely inflated by the pro-amnesty crowd.
But think of all the JOBS it would create. Not to mention the savings to offset these costs.
In this day and age, $166B is a rounding error for Government spending, especially if its spent over multiple years.
That, plus many illegals would self-deport if the pressure and penalties got serious.
Baloney. Made-up number.
In any case, if the workers who replace them aren't sending money out of the country, how much does that add up to?
Especially if you use a trebuchet. You could actually make money on that; put it on pay-per-view.
I’m going to call BS on that. It’s just demented Lib speak.
The only time liberals care about cost is when it is a program they vehemently oppose.
