It’s the Clintons - parse the words. Ask the Platte people questions that nail them to the wall over backed up data. If they were asked to ‘secure’ HRC’s server and they did not start by backing it up, they should be out of business.

We’re working uphill against the technology ignorance of journalists here.

Backing up a server is not part of security. It’s an administration/operations function. Security is going to be physical security plus network security. It probably does not include OS level security - that’s in the admin realm. If they were managing the server then the admin side would be included.

The question that needs to be asked is who was responsible for administering the server. That may or may not be Platte or the third party colocation company. My best guess is that Bryan Pagliano was the server administrator, and if so, the FBI needs to haul him in and seize his computers yesterday.

I’m trying to piece together the chain of events in some sensible way, but can’t get past the question of what exactly was co-located by Platte. An empty server? A new server without any of the old data? An existing server with data that was later wiped clean?

Ask the Platte people questions

Unless the FBI is wholly incompetent or utterly compromised, the first things they would ask the Platte people would be
