RE: Babies born here with one or both parents who are citizens

OK, assuming we adopt the above, do we make the law RETROACTIVE, or only applicable from the time it is passed?

It has to be at the time passed I would think.

Did you know it used to be in the Republican National Platform:

Dole Rejects a Party Plank
August 24, 1996

NASHVILLE, Aug. 23— Publicly repudiating a portion of his party's platform for the first time since the Republican National Convention, Bob Dole told a convention of black journalists here today that he would not support a constitutional amendment to deny automatic citizenship for children who are born in this country to illegal immigrants.

Mr. Dole, who made no secret at the convention that he had not yet read the entire platform, implied today that he had now given it a more thorough review and did not like everything he saw, including the proposed immigration amendment.

‘’I have due respect for the platform,’’ Mr. Dole said. ‘’I read a lot of parts that I thought were essential. I approved of a lot of parts that I thought were essential. That was not one of them.’’ (snip)
