If the defendant is Hispanic, DT will almost certainly be excused.

One time I got selected and put in juror seat #1, despite my protestations that I could not serve. The judge gave me the third degree admonishing me about my duty to serve regardless of my own needs and that of my job.

Trial was about an illegal alien who broke into a business and while trespassing injured himself, so he was suing the owner. Judge and lawyers interviewed me exhaustively, with the judge asking me "Can you be fair and impartial in regards to this gentleman?". I loudly said "Absolutely, as long as this illegal alien did nothing illegal!". Courtroom broke up in laughter. I was immediately excused. That there taught me how to get excused right at the get-go, proclaim yourself a conservative who won't tolerate illegals and their actions.
