‘That’s not who we are.’
This just happens to be Obama’s favorite line. How would he know? Obama didn’t set foot on the US mainland until age 18. He is a cultural foreigner, regardless of his birth certificate.
The line is defeatist, fatalistic, and disapproving without providing a viable alternative.
