Young liberals gravitate to him because he reminds them of a college professor they had. The befuddled but likable professor who is a bit disheveled but "hip" to a lot of things liberals really care about like saving the whales, climate change, raising minimum wage, special rights for homosexuals and other touchy-feely things.
