There is no doubt that Salk's discovery has helped people. However people survived for thousands of years prior to Salk and still do. Abdicating our rights as a people (and parents) to government because of fear dangerous. Especially since we know that there is a God and He protects us and our children.

If there were no God, and we were evolved slime, then I would say government coercion is perfect acceptable.
