Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that he is against a flat tax and “people as they make more and more money can pay a higher percentage” in an interview broadcast on Wednesday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.

Which countries have any desire to go back to it? There are a lot of countries, if it was so wonderful you’d think at least a few major countries would be interested.
Which countries went fiat and then back to the gold standard in modern history?
Wasn’t the last country to even consider this Switzerland which roundly rejected going back to the gold standard after having gone fiat in 1999.
The trouble I have with gold bugs and anti fiat folks isn’t that they can’t make good, or at least interesting arguments, its the bizarre conspiracy theories that they inevitably bring with them. I know some very intelligent anti-fiat people but they always seem to buy into outlandish conspiracies to explain why the “evil” central banks won’t listen to them (not saying you believe these things, just that this is what I experience talking to anti fiat types). Some of these crazy claims are believing the entire banking system is some Jewish conspiracy, that NATO is the most evil organization in the world, that we (the West) attacked Libya because, they claim, it was threatening to go back to a gold standard, etc. I mean, I see this stuff on ZH and places like InfoWars and for me it really makes the anti-fiat people look.......well.....pretty much insane.
The above is a fabrication of your mind because you see the list of conservative accomplishments under Walker's tenure and have no response. Every true conservative should be backing the ONLY candidate with a solid record. Every other candidate pales in comparison to what Walker accomplished in Wisconsin.
I saw that too but wanted to isolate one issue at a time for more focused discussion. We of the Constitutional conservative strain should see this as a non-starter.

Another reason so many people with government incomes like him so much, besides the fact that he’s running to split the vote and get Hillary elected.

Actually, under Trump’s plan, most of the folks making under 30K would lose big time. Many are eligible for the EITC, which puts up to $6K in their pockets. If you think someone who is used to paying no taxes, but who gets a refund of $4K is going to vote for someone who wants them to pay $300, you are nuts.
Over 25 million people get the EITC. I’m not sure Trump has heard of it, since he doesn’t run with those folks. But anyone who thinks we can sell a tax revision which causes everyone to have “skin in the game” when half the people in America do not currently pay anything needs to get real.
Folks might go for a sales tax. I don’t think they will go for increasing taxes on the poor so those making 50-100K can pay less. It ain’t going to happen.

Reagan fought against communists in the SAG in the 40s. He switch parties in 1962. He supported Eisenhower in the 50s, and Nixon in 1960 and Goldwater in 1964. He opposed Medicare in 1961.
He became governor of California in 1966.
He’s got two kinds of supporters. Those who don’t care about issues but are drawn to aggressive, masculine types and those who really dislike Mexicans and the Chinese.
Most GOP candidates are RINOs. Ted Cruz is for a flat tax. That’s why he stands out from the pack.
A flat tax may include exemptions up to a certain level, above the poverty line for instance. That’s not the same as a progressive income tax with several different rates based on who has a higher income.
Yes, the idea of a progressive income tax with different rates for different levels of income is one of those bizarre, unjustifiable ideas that could only come from left-wing schemers trying to implement communist policy in stealth ways. There is absolutely no economic justification to segment off higher levels of income and tax it a progressively higher rate. None whatsoever. There’s no precedent in history for that in any kind of tithing or what have you. It was a bizarre concept thought up by progressive marxists.
Why should anyone be entitled to keep less of their money just because they earn more than someone else? Progressive taxation is when taxes stopped being a “fair share” and started being income redistribution.

When you include exemptions for low income people, that is not a flat tax, but a graduated tax.
And Cruz is doing miserably in the polls in terms of rating on the economy. That is going to be a problem for him, as it is the issue people rank as most important.
Cruz is also imsultingly simplistic when claiming he’s going to abolish the IRS. As Trump points out, someone is going to have to collect the money.
