I would treat debate questions like a job interview questions. Keep the personal stuff out, focus on the issues related to the job.
I generally agree with your comment, but just about every job interview I’ve ever been on has had some inquiry as to how I get along with/treat other people, and has asked me about how I’ve handled conflicts with others in previous jobs.
