Why the Fox Debate is taking hits from Donald Trump’s fans
Fox News ^ | August 11, 2015 | Howard Kurtz

But many conservative commentators, led by Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin, have criticized Fox over the debate. What’s telling is that some portion of the Fox audience, at least according to Twitter and Facebook, is also unhappy.

Now some of these are fierce Trump partisans who are ticked when anyone challenges him on anything. Others were disappointed with the overall tone of the Cleveland event.

“The only reason Fox had high ratings was because of TRUMP and he’s the very one they tried to tear down. Thanks for Trump for your ratings, it sure wasn’t the so-called journalists,” one person said.

Another wrote that “those questions were inappropriate and vicious by Fox.”

These were offset by many others who praised the moderators’ performance, but let’s look at what some found “vicious.”

Trump was asked whether he would pledge to support the GOP nominee (after raising the potential for an independent bid in numerous interviews); about his own derogatory words about women; why he once supported single-payer health care; his evidence that Mexico is sending rapists into the United States; the Iran nuclear deal, and why he once supported abortion rights.

Jeb Bush was asked what he would say to families of those who died in “your brother’s war.” Scott Walker was asked about flip-flopping on immigration. Ben Carson was asked about his political inexperience. Marco Rubio was asked if abortion should be allowed in cases of rape and incest. And on and on.

Thank you for doing that. One need only see the questions to clearly see the purpose of the moderators. It was unbelievably blatant. It seemed as if Fox thought that there was some desperate urgency to destroy the Trump candidacy immediately.

And, then there was that Luntz fella.

That is impressive!
Though I thought the third-party question fair enough, then the moderators went into a ‘drama’ mode. With Trump as their antagonist.

Even establishment reporters said the moderators were out to ‘get’ Trump. I find that the most damning proof that they were. Well, beside my own lying eyes...

http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-08-07/fox-news-couldn-t-kill-trump-s-momentum-and-may-have-only-made-it-stronger
“ His toughest opponents Thursday night weren’t the candidates up on stage, but the Fox News moderators, who went right after him—none with more gusto than Kelly.”

http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/first-read-who-stood-out-first-gop-primary-debate-n405861
“ Fox News and its moderators went after him from the get-go — almost as if Roger Ailes wanted to knock him out of the GOP race.”

And from a VERY establishment reporter (Roll Call):
“Matt Fuller @MEPFuller
Do I have to get a Tetanus shot if I agree with Trump that Fox, from the opening bell, was out to destroy him? “

If the moderators hadn’t been so blatant in their manner they may have damaged Trump instead of getting him sympathy.

Yes, it was apparent to all fair people that Trump was singled out at the beginning, on a topic that only he would have been a part of—ie, the third party issue.

Bret thought the question good, but thought it would pass quickly, and they could get past it. Bret did not expect Trump to raise his hand, as Trump answered the question honestly.

I took Bret to task for not aniticpating one of only two possible reactions from Trump. Bret insists the question was his own and no one elses’, but I told him even if that were so, could he not see how the rest of America would see it as a set-up.

Where the truth lies, I don;t know. But the combination of the open set-up, and then followed by Kelly’s gotcha (and let’s be honest—there is no way that question was not designed to portray Trump negatively—watch the video to see Kelly’s glee in asking it) question on women, that Trump was not targeted.

Kelly’s glee turned to panic when Trump interrupted her with his “just Rosie” crack. I saw that in her face!
To a media person’s POV that was a “heavy hitter” question but Trump showed it was just ridiculous- which is how ‘normal’ people do view it.

The moderators asked maybe two serious questions in all and took up 30 minutes to do that pitiful much. It was pathetic- but good (or at least ‘normal’) TV I guess.
