With due respect, that's a pretty shallow reading of this. First, the point is that calling it out as radical Islamic terrorism is the first necessary step - he's ridiculing Obama and others who refuse to call it what it is. The second part of your statement is only applicable if Cruz were assuming this would be easy...and he's not.
It's easy to forget that most folks do not immerse themselves in the Political World as we do here. At one time, the campaigns did not begin until Labor Day and we've been at it for several months already. I think a lot of folks out there just began to take notice after the debate. And the fact that Ted got a nice bump is very encouraging.
Cruz has said considerably more on the subject despite not saying it in this particular statement.
He has spoken about being a lot choosier about what wars we decide to insert ourselves into and being a lot choosier about which allies we pick.
He’s spoken about serious training of our proven allies the Kurds. Giving them the weapons they actually need rather than just enough small arms to keep them fighting rather than winning. Real air support rather than this halfhearted crap they’re getting now.
