So why do people keep saying Bush has all the money? (Again, acknowledging that even that much pales beside what Trump can raise).
He’s in the lead but I have to think the donors are having second thoughts after he put in the best performance possible in this first debate but got no bump in the polls from it. It may not be his policies that are a turn-off, but the idea of “another Bush” seems to be a turn-off to even the low info primary voters. Not sure why they’d want to back a candidate with such an obvious vulnerability.
It really seems like Fox is hedging their bets by pumping Fiorina up in their coverage. They may be testing the waters to see if she could be the establishment’s replacement for Jeb.
Heck, they may even pull the ace in the hole out and tell Romney to get back in at this point. I think Jeb is going nowhere fast and there’s no saving him. I’m not sure if they’re sure if they can trust Rubio since he started out with Tea Party support and may not have quite enough of a clear track record yet of being cozy with business interests.
There’s also just a slight hint that with Trump being the alternative, they may throw in with Cruz if it’s the only guy they think the primary voters might go for over Trump. They may decide they’ll just try their best to buy off Cruz if they can’t find a true viable candidate firmly in their corner.
