Donald Trump's misogynistic rant against Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly led to his Republican primary rivals demanding he apologize for the disgusting remarks.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on Saturday hit the motormouthed mogul for insulting Kelly and women at a conservative activists' conference and demanded an apology.
"Come on give me a break. I mean, do we want to win? Do we want to insult 53% of all voters? What Donald Trump said is wrong," Bush said to cheers at the RedState Gathering.
The conference's organizer, Erick Erickson, cut Trump from the roster after the billionaire buffoon lashed out at Kelly, who challenged him on his past misogynistic comments during the first big TV debate of the cycle.
Trump said Friday that during the Cleveland showdown, "You could see there was blood coming out of (Kellys) eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever."
Not very classy or helpful, Bush said.
That is not how we win elections and worse yet, that is not how you bring people together to solve problems. That is not the way to do it," said the ex-governor, who saw himself bumped to second place by Trump's June leap into the packed GOP field.
"Your decision, I think, was the right one," Bush told Erickson, who pulled Trump's invite to RedState on Friday. "Mr. Trump ought to apologize."
Speaking earlier Saturday to reporters after a warmly received speech to the grassroots conference, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz -- who has defended some of Trump's controversial remarks on immigration -- defended Kelly while avoiding a direct assault on the frontrunner.
"I think that's a decision for RedState to make," Cruz said when asked about Trump being barred from the gathering. "I think every candidate should treat everyone else with civility and respect. That is a standard that I try to follow. That is a standard I hope that all of us try to aspire to."
Cruz praised Kelly as a "terrific journalist" who "did a very good job moderating the debate," but also chided the press for focusing too much on the "soap opera" aspects of the campaign over more substantive issues, including foreign policy.
"You're not going to defeat the Washington cartel by obsessing over the politics of personality," he said.
“...defending a left-wing loser like Trump is embarrassing.”
Starting at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday night, this issue has had nothing to do with “defending ... Trump”. It has everything to do with outrage at the media. Figure it out. There are plenty of people who hate Trump and/or are Democrats who are angry at the unequal treatment of the candidates.
We all know that Trump will flame out over time, but what he’s saying now from his current bully pulpit are things people need to hear. Why not give him that chance? Why stifle him? None of the other weenies have the courage to discuss jobs going to Mexico and China, or illegal immigration. Let Trump speak.
A very interesting thought, especially the first two sentences above. Explains quite a bit.
That's why we have to fight back for the next 15 months.
And the enemy is in front of us as well as in back of us.
Cruz doesn’t have the fire in his belly. He doesn’t have the urgency or passion.
We need a general, a warrior to run for president.
Overall absolutely. I would however point out that a conservative, a real one that actually believes in conservative ideals, could not, by definition, support a liberal. So in effect they are using psych to sway moderates.
Absolutely. Thank you, flaglady47!
Bush helped murder Terri Schiavo and who knows how many more.
Where is Jeb Bush’s apology to them and their families,
in English or his preferred Spanish?
If Trump apologize to those two cotton balls, he is finished. I will never forgive him. He was right and does not need to apologize.
You need to understand the exact same thing is going to happen to Cruz. You can sit here and say he will handle it better than Trump. It will not matter. Google “Cruz” and “creepy” now to get a preview of what will happen. They already have old college pals and women waiting in the wings. Megyn Kelly will be right there joining in the scrum.
It will not matter how Cruz responds and what he says in his defense. So you can blame Trump for this all you want but this is political assassination plain and simple and will happen to any and every candidate who is not Establishment. Fight it now so you don’t look like a giant hypocrite when it’s time to defend your chosen guy or gal.
Yeah, It’s fascinating to watch— so many cross-currents at play.
LOL!
Bonus points for the use of the word “spackle”!
"Due to Donald Trump's unrelenting and offensive attack on Megyn Kelly and others, we are at a crossroads with Mr. Trump. I applaud Erick Erickson for doing the right thing when he disinvited Donald Trump from a gathering of Republican activists. As a party, we are better to risk losing without Donald Trump than trying to win with him. Enough already with Mr. Trump.https://twitter.com/LindseyGrahamSC"These statements are not worthy of the office he is seeking nor consistent with the leadership we should expect in a Commander-in-Chief in these dangerous times."
Well now...the GOP favorites all came out to comment against Trump....like they all thought of doing this on their own...Jeb, Carly, and Walker....dream team of the GOP.
bump
Jeb says he is not angry. That means nothing about what Obama does has upset him.
Why Jeb honey... there you go, acting like you never called Trump an a$$hole...aren’t you adorable..
Poor Jeb needs a widdle hug.
Damn but that is good! Sounds toxic, actually when you lay it all out like that.
>>That’s why we have to fight back for the next 15 months.
But, fight back for what? Fight who?
Come on JEB. More than 53% of the voters are working class that have their wages cut and have lost opportunity due to you love of illegals. Shut up and go home to Mexico where you belong.
