Donald Trump's misogynistic rant against Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly led to his Republican primary rivals demanding he apologize for the disgusting remarks.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on Saturday hit the motormouthed mogul for insulting Kelly and women at a conservative activists' conference and demanded an apology.
"Come on give me a break. I mean, do we want to win? Do we want to insult 53% of all voters? What Donald Trump said is wrong," Bush said to cheers at the RedState Gathering.
The conference's organizer, Erick Erickson, cut Trump from the roster after the billionaire buffoon lashed out at Kelly, who challenged him on his past misogynistic comments during the first big TV debate of the cycle.
Trump said Friday that during the Cleveland showdown, "You could see there was blood coming out of (Kellys) eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever."
Not very classy or helpful, Bush said.
That is not how we win elections and worse yet, that is not how you bring people together to solve problems. That is not the way to do it," said the ex-governor, who saw himself bumped to second place by Trump's June leap into the packed GOP field.
"Your decision, I think, was the right one," Bush told Erickson, who pulled Trump's invite to RedState on Friday. "Mr. Trump ought to apologize."
Speaking earlier Saturday to reporters after a warmly received speech to the grassroots conference, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz -- who has defended some of Trump's controversial remarks on immigration -- defended Kelly while avoiding a direct assault on the frontrunner.
"I think that's a decision for RedState to make," Cruz said when asked about Trump being barred from the gathering. "I think every candidate should treat everyone else with civility and respect. That is a standard that I try to follow. That is a standard I hope that all of us try to aspire to."
Cruz praised Kelly as a "terrific journalist" who "did a very good job moderating the debate," but also chided the press for focusing too much on the "soap opera" aspects of the campaign over more substantive issues, including foreign policy.
"You're not going to defeat the Washington cartel by obsessing over the politics of personality," he said.
unleash the hounds. Time we take it to bay.
Certainly no other Republican has a chance to beat Hillary...Apparently you guys didn't learn anything with McMain and Romney...
Your little friend has been suspended or banned, but you are so right - McCain and Romney were “conventional candidates” and look what happened. Do something different if what you did didn’t work - I’m liking what Trump is doing to the GOPe and other leftists.
Bush routinely insults voters and he “doesn’t need conservatives” to win.
If the elites foist Bush onto us they will lose in a blood bath.
Yo hablo un poco illegal alien (to better relate to Jeb) ;)
Laughing... good for the soul :)
