Looting Sweeps Venezuela as Hunger Takes Over
PanAm Post ^ | 8/8/15 | SABRINA MARTÍN

It’s the law of the jungle in Venezuela, as shopping for groceries becomes an increasingly dangerous activity. As the shortage crisis worsens, more and more angry mobs are raiding the nation’s supermarkets, looting whatever basic goods they can find.+

During the first half of 2015, the Venezuelan Observatory for Social Conflict (OVCS) registered no fewer than 132 incidents of looting or attempted looting at various stores throughout the country. In addition, Venezuelan consumers staged over 500 protests that condemned the lack of available products at state-run grocery stores, markets, and pharmacies.+

The OVCS has documented at least 132 incidents of looting or attempted looting in Venezuela in the first half of 2015 alone.

The OVCS has documented at least 132 incidents of looting (saqueos) or attempted looting in Venezuela in the first half of 2015 alone. (OVCS) The report, titled “Social Conflict in Venezuela during the First Half of 2015,” also notes that 2,836 protests have taken place this year over various demands, including labor issues, housing, security, and education, as well as food shortages.+

The number of total protests, however, has dropped compared to the same period last year, when 6,369 anti-government rallies took place, leaving 43 dead, hundreds wounded, and dozens of political prisoners detained.+

With an average of 14 protests per day, the unrest has Venezuela “trapped in a spiral of social and political conflicts that grow over the months, and which could become more acute due to the forthcoming parliamentary elections,” the observatory notes in its report.+

On the other hand, the South American country has experienced a surge in protests over labor issues. The NGO reports that demonstrations over these issues increased by 50 percent compared to the same period last year, with 162 labor protests per month.

I know what you’re thinking. We’re so lucky to have been born here and not in Venezuela! An economy needs incentives.

Hey, Bernie, here is your blessed Socialism in action.

I'm sure that Bernie would tell you that those brown folk can't administer socialism properly. He might never say it but you know he believes it. It's always the way it's administered. It needs technocrats and well intentioned folk like Bernie to do it right. He's a crappy little bastard. Hillary's just Ma Barker.

This is what the media and democrats want to turn the USA into a socialist state. So every year since 1970 democrats have given 1 million green cards (citizenship) to a million 3rd world socialist immigrants from the 3rd world. this is why the USA has been moving to the left. that and the media lies

I lived in Venezuela for two years in the seventies. I could go to the grocery store and buy almost anything that I could in the United States. Canned goods were expensive as they were mostly imported. Fresh Vegetables, Seafood, and meat were about half the cost in the United States. Rice beans, and other grains were about the same cost.

The store shelves were always full, there was no shortage of anything.

Chavez and Maduro have destroyed the Venezuelan economy. They have given the Venezuelan people great poverty, hunger and despair. All this happened while sitting on one of the worlds greatest oil reserves.

What I am thinking is that they are just father along the road to serfdom than are we, but we'll catch up to them eventually.

I forgot to add, Chavez did win the first election. When he was elected again it was a stolen election as was Maduro’s Election.

Communists win one election honestly and steal all other elections via vote fraud. It is not important who you vote for. What is important is who counts the votes!

Long lines and looting: hallmarks of socialism.

Exactly. Well said.

It will only end when sane Venezuelans finally have enough and either kill or drive out the leftists within their midst. You can’t survive cancer by tolerating tumors...you have to destroy them.

They voted for it, now they have it. “Be careful what you wish for” comes to mind here. No sympathy.

Hayek's book is a classic. If you're still interested in monetary policy in the American history, read the work done by Friedman and Schwartz. You're not going to live long enough for us to "catch up" with Venezuela. Not even Israel is going to catch up with Venezuela and they're further along the "road" than we are. In fact, there are many roads and many turns in our future.

If you really believe that you can accurately predict economic trends or events, there is a fortune waiting for you.

One does not know "when" an avalanche will occur, but one can identify the conditions making it more probable.

Well, I know that my death is inevitable, not just probable. But, I am certainly not going to schedule my funeral before it's time.

I am optimistic about our country's future. I can't tell you which country will be dominant in 200 years, but I can tell you that we're starting this race with a big head start. There isn't any place I'd rather be right now.

On the bright side, at least now they won’t need the bathroom tissue that had become so scarce.

Even if the pope could just turn Crude Oil into product!:

“PDVSA is pumping about 8,000 barrels per employee per day, compared to about 26,000 barrels in 2004, according to the trade group Gente del Petroleo. While Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has pledged to double output, few in the industry are confident this goal can be reached.”

Jade Helm has pre-positioned troops to deal with something coming, something imminent that fedzilla knows is about to arrive but they will not tell the peons about. We the people are to be ‘managed’ by the regime, not informed as the sovereigns. America as a we the people republic has ended, the deposed sovereigns just haven’t realized it fully yet.

Not a bunch of Vens coming across the border here. I believe they are Brazils problem after Brazil’s economy turned around a bit.

It is funny (it a crappy kinda way) that we were catching truck loads of Brazilians in ‘05 and ‘06 until amnesty for them was taken off the table in ‘07. Then it dried up over night. No more Brazilians, especially the little kid traffic.
