Hee hee hee. Infrastructure. Increased revenues will go only in small part to fixing roads and bridges. Large parts of it will go to bullet trains, light rail, pedestrian walkways and bike trails. Also, a substantial percentage (maybe 8%) of the Highway Trust Fund goes to clean up underground storage tanks.
Congress and administrations have been raiding that fund for non-highway purposes for decades. That’s why there’s a crumbling infrastructure.
In a nutshell: President Reagan agreed to raise the gas tax 5 cents, why won’t you too to repair our crumbling infrastructure?
Because the days of Reagan are gone. We know that once the Federal Government gets the money it will go everywhere but to the infrastructure.........
Texas is doing something similar - but then we have a history of doing that when the Feds won’t live up to their responsibilities. Won’t fund highways? Fine, we’ll make toll roads and then laugh when the Feds look stupid and inept by a simple quality comparison between said road and the crap they specified but wouldn’t pay for.
And we’ve been doing it since 1953.
Texas has the busiest freight crossing on the Continent and the second is Detroit. Its economically vital infrastructure.
Want a bad example? The Mackinac Bridge Authority who separated from Mi. Dept of Transportation has created a huge empire with expenses known but to God unless they have great accountants. Talk about growth - even vehicles.
LET ME ASK THAT AGAIN for those who didn’t see cripplecreek’s post.
Answer:
Thomas L. Friedman is an idiot.
Stop Congress from stealing the Highway Trust Fund money and the infrastructure will be just fine
