No matter how much we may enjoy watching the (probably quite temporary) take down of the political and media establishments that has been taking place, Donald Trump solves nothing.
Not only has he always been wrong on principles and policy, being a liberal Democrat, his recent, oh-so-politically-convenient “conversion” amounts only to him morphing, at least partially, from liberal Democrat positions toward most of the stances of establishment Republicans. In other words, he’s still wrong on principles and policy.
This is just the latest example. If you manage to sort through Trump’s rather confused words, and boil it down, there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between his position and that of Jeb Bush.
Oh no, we won’t give them a path to citizenship. We’ll give them “legal status.” In other words, we’ll formalize what we already have: a subclass inside America.
Which isn’t very American, to put it bluntly.
Unfortunately, “expand quotas”, “more green cards” also translates into “legal status” as another candidate actually espoused on in a bill but Trump is putting the issue up front and center. And 70% (69% ?) of Americans are against Amnesty, I hope Trump and the others consider this.
Maybe I’m wrong, one consolation seems to be that “legal status” doesn’t give them the right to vote but it would seem to be difficult to deny it later.
Trump may be “mercurial”, spur of the moment but he definitely has my ear and he is, like Buchanan said, “a man of action”, we can talk about this stuff for ad infinitum, what we need is some real action and as said earlier, a real fence would be a good start.
Trump still seems to have Americans’ interest at heart but we will see.

So many axioms, postulates, and theories about what will work and what won’t — and likewise, our well-intended contention will likely keep us in the minority until the stars are perfectly aligned. That’s fine. I love watching the stars across the night’s sky.
