The conservatives have the votes in the Republican Caucus to deny him the chair but the Dems can ( and I think would) provide him the votes in the simple majority vote on the ‘motion to vacate’ to defeat the motion.

Not sure what’s going on here, though I approve!

Republicans in the House caucus can’t come near to enough votes to overthrow Boehner, or they would have.

What they have is enough votes to deny him the Speakership in the whole House vote. The speaker must get an absolute majority. No Democrat is going to support Boehner. Dems would also like to see him humiliated. The idea is to make fellow GOPers punish Boehner by agreeing to a compromise candidate.
