I seem to recall something similar happening a few years ago in China with an escalator.

Did you see the video? I've heard of accidents where shoelaces and such get caught in the grooves, and mangle children's feet. But I never gave a second thought to stepping off onto the top plate, that it could collapse! Good grief, talk about wrong place and wrong time for someone to be.

Nor did I.

I have heard the same about being pulled under by shoelace, but I had no clue something like this could happen.

That is absolutely frightening.

In the 70s, the Sears escalator caught my gramma’s shoe and nearly pulled her foot in.

I’ve hated those infernal contraptions ever since.

When I have no other choice and *must* use one, I jump off before the steps ever reach the top.
