From what I’ve read the hack was not sophisticated at all. Something any high school kid could do.
I'm surprised about that, but maybe PP never thought [at least since '08] they could be attacked, since they are being so coddled and nurtured by our current administration.

The news reports are saying it was a “blind SQL” injection attack. Gizmodo was my source but I dont think we’re supposed to link to them here.
This type of attack involves making database queries through the web page. This is a basic attack and only works on poorly configured systems.
