In spite of the provocative nature of his seemingly unchecked comments, its clear that Donald Trump and his polarizing comments are not going away. After all, theres something very attractive about a truth teller whos not afraid of expressing his views in a town known for political correctness, safe comments, and excuses.
The faithful want more than campaign promises from politicians who once elected seem to get a strong case of Potomac Fever. Many wonder if fearless campaigning will translate into fearless, effective leadership.
By Trumps own admission, hes beyond rich, rich enough not to need anyones campaign funds. He cant be bought, and he cant be tamed. Hes no negotiating apprentice; hell single-handedly negotiate deals Americans can be proud of. He doesnt need advisors; Trumps got being president covered.
How does he feel about his competition? In a recent column, Trump wrote: Many of my competitors for the Republican nomination have no business running for president. I do not need to be lectured by any of them. Many are failed politicians or people who would be unable to succeed in the private sector.
Temperament is not a Trump strong suit. Hes slammed illegal Mexican immigrants as drug dealers, rapists and criminals. His belated apologies seem more defensive than sincere. What true issues he isolates end up being minimized because of the Trump sideshow controversies. The rest of the crowded Republican field are left gasping for any media air time.
Truth telling can be attractive, but loose-cannon leaders who cant work with others are not. Trump, this great negotiating, business leader, has already lost sponsors and angered party colleagues. Imagine what he could do as president to diplomatic ties with enemies and allies alike. Can you hear him: Many of my so-called allies have no business running a country or lecturing me. Most are failed leaders in socialist countries who are no more capitalists than Obama was. There is a reason presidents of both parties use telepromptersthe wrong statement can start wars!
How can Trump work across party lines when he cant even get along with his own party. Hes put down people he would need to unite the partyfrom John McCain and Mitt Romney to the Bushes and Karl Rove. He not only hates the germs that come with shaking hands, he seems to hate the people he would have to shake hands with. What would Trumps style do to an already polarized Washington?
This man doesnt need our money, our advice, or our party leaders. Im wondering if he even needs our votes to assume the GOP candidate crown.
Ronald Reagan had on his desk: Its amazing what you can accomplish when you dont care who gets the credit. Great leaders dont do it alone. They take more than their share of the blame and give more than their share of the credit.
Ask great leaders if they have people working with them who know significantly more than they do in certain areas, theyd proudly raise their hands. It changes leaders prayers; every night they pray to God above, Let them live!
No president or leader knows it all! They need people on the bus who bring different perspectives, critical skills, and valuable political experience.
You dont just elect presidents; you elect the team theyll bring with them. That requires collaborative presidents who can listen long enough to know what they need to say and do.
Yes, I want a truth teller and a president who has the inner fortitude and confidence to make the tough calls. But I also want a leader who doesnt demonize others but can bridge across divides to find common ground and rally shared commitments.
Finally, I want a president who is more impressed with the Americans he serves than the face reflected in the mirror every morning. I want candidates who need We the people to fund their campaigns, to buy their vision and values, and to vote enthusiastically to elect them.
Trump seems to lack a set of consistent core values, other than do what you can to make money. He’s been all across the board politically not only throughout his lifetime, but even in the past decade. I don’t trust him.
I support Ted Cruz for having a history of taking on the establishment for the people.
People should learn about the Medellín v. Texas case, what Cruz faced, and who he defeated. He faced down the Bush aministration/DC establishment and the international establishment. It was a win for Texas state sovereignty, US sovereignty, and the victims of illegal alien crimes.
Politicians can’t save America. Only God can.
Politicians can only destroy.
Thank God Trump is a lot smarter than this writer.
What a buffoon this guy is, why does he even get to use Townhall.com to publish such tripe?
More than Bush will screw us??? What's Trump going to do to screw us???
——Donald Trump is an obvious charlatan who WILL screw you. Mark my words.——
I am amazed good solid conservatives on this site cannot see this...
I do think Trump is the best thing to happen to the GOPE and America in a long time...
He is flushing out all the members of the uniparty and the bought and paid for corporate lackeys in Congress...
Their charade is being exposed...
Trump is about one thing...Trump...
If Trump marketing Trump has a side benefit of helping America...I can live with that...
Exactly. For now Trump is useful. Discard him when he’s no longer useful.
If Cruz is still in the race next June I will vote for him. In the six months remaining before the first votes are cast I will get behind Trump and push. He is showing us the path to victory. And scaring all the right people.
“People who seek salvation in politicians are going to be sorely disappointed.”
That is so true! Although I’m rather enjoying seeing Trump expose and shame the underhanded politicians; I see the truth glaring out of these circumstances that are escalating faster each day. This nation and this government will fall. I can’t read my Scripture and not know that. As a nation; we have turned away from The Almighty and the consequences are now coming to fruition.
We have a President and a government that openly defies everything The Word teaches and seems to be bent on destroying everyone who believes or teaches it. Far from being a minority; there is a majority of Americans who embrace, support or at least tolerate all the evil that we have been warned about since time began.
We have two political parties who have both embraced policies and programs that defy The Word. A government that was once founded upon Christian principles is now an avowed and open enemy of them.
But we Americans cling to the hope that a hero will arise and miraculously save us all. On one hand we cheer for a Senator who bravely stands up against lobbyists and crony capitalism. On the other hand, some of us admire, even if grudgingly, a man who got so rich by expertly managing that same system, that he doesn’t have to fear anyone(mortal, that is.)
This nation will fall by the same almighty and infallible hand that raised it up. It’s not as if we weren’t warned what would happen if we turned away from His teachings. And now that our destruction is at hand, most of us are still clinging to the hope that there’s a man or group that will save us from what we have allowed.
That’s why we have been taught(but hardly believed) that we may be required to give up wealth, freedom or even loved ones in order to save our immortal souls. I’m not saying we should stop hoping or working for political improvement and solutions. I’m not even saying we shouldn’t fight if need be. I’m saying that we may be forgetting to consult, beseech, and ask for mercy from He who can really save us.
Donald Trump will siphon off votes from the GOP.

“Well, the first thing we do is take the bad ones, of which there are, unfortunately, quite a few. We take the bad ones, and get them the hell out. . . . We have to get the bad ones out. Then the other ones — and I’m a very big believer in merit system. I have to tell you. Because some of these people have been here, the! y’ve done a good job. You know, in some cases, sadly, they’ve been living under the shadows, etc. etc. We have to do something. So, whether it’s merit or whether it’s whatever, but I’m a believer in the merit system. If somebody’s been outstanding, we try and work something out. But before we do anything, Joe, we have to secure the border....”
Donald Trump
Lincoln Chafee - F
You have Chafee in the wrong column - hes running as a Democrat.
Trying something different is what many of those who voted for zero said before his first election so he has a good chance to win.
I like Cruz and Walker.
He needs Ted Cruz as VP and Mike Lee as well—and yes, even Sarah Palin.
Blah, blah, blah.
I’m sorry for the error...
I was multitasking,sometimes good,sometimes not so good.
I copied those grades off of the NumbersUSA anti illegal alien webite site. many talk the talk but, don’t walk the walk and will NEVER walk the walk!
