As the Senate met for a rare Sunday session, Sens. Orrin Hatch of Utah, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas each rose to counter a stunning floor speech Cruz gave on Friday accusing McConnell, R-Ky., of lying.
None of them mentioned Cruz by name but the target of their remarks could not have been clearer. The drama came as the Senate defeated a procedural vote to repeal President Barack Obama's health care law and took a step toward reviving the federal Export-Import Bank, both amendments on a must-pass highway bill.
"Squabbling and sanctimony may be tolerated in other venues and perhaps on the campaign trail, but they have no place among colleagues in the United States Senate," said Hatch, the Senate's president pro tempore. Cruz is running for president.
"The Senate floor has even become a place where senators have singled out colleagues by name to attack them in personal terms, to impugn their character, in blatant disregard for Senate rules," Hatch said. "Such misuses of the Senate floor must not be tolerated."
After Hatch spoke, Cruz rose to defend himself for making the accusation that McConnell had lied when he denied striking a deal to allow the vote to revive the Export-Import Bank.
He said he agreed with Hatch's calls for civility but declared, "Speaking the truth about actions is entirely consistent with civility."
And far from backing down, Cruz reiterated his complaint about McConnell. "My saying so may be uncomfortable but it is a simple fact, entirely consistent with decorum, and no member of this body has disputed that promise was made and that promise was broken."

Do I have to see this despicable old fool right before I have dinner? Ewwww!
He’s not as smart as he probably thinks he is. He has been on the dole as a legislator all his adult life and is out of touch. He made an enemy of the people and of Ted Cruz. Big mistake, Turtle Boy. A great many people are angry.
Rand Paul and Mike Lee were right in there with Cruz. They showed Cojones too!!!
Ha! The Turtle. I liked that one........
“Sens. Orrin Hatch of Utah, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas.
One little, two little, three little RINOs.
...senators have singled out colleagues by name to impugn their character....

RINO pleeze! They do that themselves without help from anyone else.
I’d love to see these three, and McConnell, drop dead and go on to that big Senate Cloak Room in the sky.....or wherever the hell they’re going. (No pun intended.)
Ted Cruz, like Trump, has steel balls. Difference is, Cruz uses wisdom and intellect with his. “The Donald” is a bull in a China Closet. I love ‘em both.
Hatch, Alexander, and Cornyn; the Democrat wing of the GOPe..
I noticed that too.
If Ted Cruz gave Mitch McConnell one of his balls, they’d both have one.
Rand Paul and Mike Lee were right in there with Cruz. They showed Cojones too!!!

Rand Paul and Mike Lee for standing with Cruz. My top three pics for the GOP nomination: Cruz, Trump, Paul. In that order. Paul was the first to call for defunding Planned Parenthood for selling body parts from aborted babies. YOU GO RAND!!!
We've got a long ways to go before were happy.
Who cares? They should read their Facebook pages. They are hated. Ted Cruz is loved.
A new day has come.
+1
Something is seriouly wrong with Tenn.
They re-elected Lame Alexander. They also gave us Corker.
Cruz TOLD THE TRUTH “in blatant disregard for Senate rules”! Does Hatch know how much every honest person loathes him?
I dont trust McConnell or any gop leadership.
I think McConnell and other gop leaders are just playing to the media and trying to make themselves look like they are doing something.
Think what Cruz said just this week about McConnell lying and also this from Cruzs book.
Cruz on leadership corruption and sellout......
That Tuesday lunch began with our leadership saying, Were asking every Republican senator here, to affirmatively consent to lower the threshold for Harry Reid to take up the debt ceiling, from 60 votes to 50 votes. And we were told, everyone of you should agree for two reasons.
Number one, if we do this, it will happen, and hallelujah, hallelujah, thats what we want. We want trillions more in debt with no spending reforms, because were scared of this issue. We dont want to have a political fight on this.
But number two, if we do this, the Democrats will have the votes to do it on their own, which means all of us Republicans can vote no. And we can go home and tell our constituents, we opposed the thing we just consented to allow happen.
Now, I was sitting there to be honest, I hadnt gone to lunch intending to pick a fight, but as I listened to that, I was astonished and I raised my hand, and I said, Theres no universe in which I can consent to doing that. I spent two years campaigning across Texas, telling Texas, if you elect me, Ill fight with every breath in my body to stop the out of control spending and debt that are bankrupting our kids and grandkids.
If were to do that, I think it would be both dishonest and unfaithful to the men and women who elected me.
They are a couple real men, giants walking among dwarves like Yertle and Boner and their followers.
