Coast Guard search-and-rescue crews are searching for two missing 14-year-old boys in the vicinity of Jupiter.
Austin Stephanos (left) and Perry Cohen (right), both 14, were reported missing after not returning from a fishing trip on Friday off the coast of Jupiter, Florida.
They were last seen at approximately 1:30 p.m after purchasing $110 worth of fuel.
Officials received a report that the boys had disappeared at about 5 p.m. after they didnt return to shore at the expected time. The Coast Guard had covered about 5,300-square nautical miles by Saturday morning.
The Palm Bay Sheriffs Office is also providing assistance.
The boys did not pack much food or water, and were due back Friday afternoon after fishing near the Jupiter Inlet, Coast Guard Petty Officer Mark Barney said.
Anyone with information on the boys whereabouts is asked to contact authorities.
You need license for everything, including “A License to Thrill”
Some jet skis today have turbos and will do 60 mph. They are like little cigarette boats.
You mean Muir? I miss Chuck and Harold’s on Palm Beach and Charley’s Crab in Jupiter. Good times.
They should look by Saturn and Mars too...
We didn’t have them when I was in but I think they are absolutely awesome
Prayers up!
Heavenly Father please guide these children and those who are searching for them. I pray they will be safely returned to their families. In Jesus’ name, Lord, hear our prayers.
and water spouts day and night that pop up or should I say drop out of no where.
Day time no problem..night time you need radar and they will ruin your day
"We'll be the Pirate Twins again...."
Amen.
I am sure the folks always told them stay in sight of land and we all know how that goes especially if your running a weed line and 14.
If they know the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, that Florida is to the west and have not run out of fuel, ...
Thanks for the reply, and your service.
Radio ? Compass? It was getting late & after dark if you don’t know the stars your in an iffy situation although the western horizon is brighter cause of the city lights etc but these are kids and they could have freaked out and not realized that.
They bought a 100 bucks of gas had to be a marina so whats that 35 gallons + or - ?
Gulf stream could a pulled them up and they over shot Bimini, happens a lot. They could be off Georgia by now but the CG is good at plotting that stuff.
Hopefully they didn’t over shoot Bimini and ended up trashed on those clear bottle Becks.
NFL Hall of Fame quarterback and area resident Joe Namath announced Sunday he was joining the search for the boys. The families are now offering a $100,000 reward for their safe return.
I heard the weather got snotty out there for them and those squals will trash a small boat fast.....
Any word on the weather at the time? They kind of fish they were looking for? How about local marine traffic? Who’s usually out there?
Lots of things could happen in the open ocean. I hope they were well-provisioned and turn up safe in Bimini or somewhere!
TEQUESTA, Fla. (AP) NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath is offering a $100,000 reward in the search for two teenage fishermen along Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos did not return as scheduled Friday from a fishing trip. Both are 14 years old, and they were last seen Friday afternoon in the Jupiter area buying fuel for their 19-foot boat.
We would have had a marine radio and today they should have had a cell phone but maybe they got too far out for the cell phone. I hope they are found safe.
Open ocean must not be as rough down there as off the NC coast, a 19 footer wouldn’t fare too well here, a rough ride at best.
