The Connecticut Democratic Party quietly voted Wednesday night to remove references to iconic former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson from the name of its annual fundraising dinner due to their links to slavery and the mistreatment of Native Americans.
"Let's work together to show the rest of the state exactly what it means to be a Connecticut Democrat,' said freshman party Chairman Nick Balletto, according to the Hartford Courant, before introducing the resolution to rename the Jefferson-Jackson-Bailey Dinner.
The resolution was unanimously approved; Bailey, which remains for now, honors the late Democratic National Committee Chairman John Bailey. I see it as the right thing to do, Balletto later told Hearst Connecticut Media. I wasnt looking to be a trailblazer or set off a trend thats going to affect the rest of the country. Hopefully, theyll follow suit when they see its the right thing to do.
Democratic Party organizations around the country typically hold their own annual Jefferson-Jackson Day fundraisers. The Missouri Democratic Party voted two weeks ago to rename its "J-J" dinner in honor of former President Harry Truman.
Connecticut Democrats said Jeffersons ownership of slaves and Jacksons role in the Trail of Tears the forced relocation of Native Americans played a principal role in their decision to vote in favor of the name change.
The local chapter of the NAACP applauded lawmakers "in making the symbolic first step and striving to right the wrongs of the past."
"You cant change history, but you dont have to honor it, Balletto is quoted as saying.
The dinner, which celebrated 67 years in June, most recently hosted Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as a keynote speaker.
A new name will likely be adopted in the fall.
‘..rename its “J-J” dinner in honor of former President Harry Truman.’
Is it true, as I’ve read, that Harry Truman was a registered member of the Ku Klux Klan?
Perhaps this group could rename its women’s outreach the Monica Lewinsky plan, oops, maybe the Paula Jones Plan, well that won’t work. Maybe....
I doubt these dumb dems realize that when the Brits burned DC the Library of Congress was destroyed. The books were replenished from Thomas Jeffersons collection at Monticello...but alas he owned slaves...woop woop wahoo.
They probably don’t read anyhow.

Yep. Stupid is as stupid does and we all know we can’t fix stupid aka liberals.
Great! They’ve removed the names of 2 presidents, one of whom wrote the Declaration of Independence and left the name of some old party hack that NO ONE has ever heard of.
Keep it up guys and gals, you are doing a fantastic job!
Will this have any effect on the Woodrow Wilson Film Festival?
Democrat’s are the party of slavery. When are they going to change the party name?
Great, name it after an f’n haberdasher WWI Army grunt— who couldn’t run a damned thing, and whose admin was riddled with communists.
the only reason ole harry T was VP was because he was a machine dem politician. That’s it. A really bad president.
They should rename this dinner the Johnson and Johnson Dinner— after Andrew Johnson (and Reconstruction conducted by Sec. Stanton and his Pinkerton thugs with the railroads and Freedmen’s Bureaus) and LBJ— whose Great Society and War on Poverty burned through a trillion dollars— and yet... blacks and minorities are still poor and downtrodden. But the fedgov agencies they created are fully staffed by dem supporters for LIFE.
Don’t worry. They way Connecticut is going politically, next year it will be the Karl Marx-Ho Chi Minh Dinner.
If you know anything about Connecticut politics, esp. Laura DeRosa and her ties to the Communist Party USA, then you know what I’m talking about (for proof, go to www.keywiki.org, search under Laura DeRosa or Joelle Fishman, and see the reds being buddy-buddy at Party headquarters).
Think these tools know TJ is on the $2 bill?
What’s next, remove Washington’s image from the quarter and 1 dollar bill, eliminate Jefferson’s image from the nickel and 2 dollar bill? How about tearing down the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial, blowing up Mt. Vernon and Monticello while we’re at it....
I would like to propose the Sharpton-Jackson-Robert Byrd dinner.
The more the Left rails on about the evil of slavery, the more I’m convinced they want to bring it back in a “more diverse” form.
