To be honest, in spite of his ardent segregationist past, while governor, Lester Maddox placed more blacks in positions of authority in Georgia state government than any of his predecessors, IIRC.
AND he could ride a bicycle backwards! (Maybe if Teddy had used a bicycle for his ‘dates’, he would have become President...)
