In June, there were almost 11 million people collecting disability benefits, an increase of nearly 34% over the past decade.

When the recession hit, people younger than 62 who lost their jobs and couldn't find work had to explore all the options. Prior to the recession, many of these people WERE disabled under the current guidelines, but preferred working to being members of the FSA.

Contrary to popular opinion, it's not that easy to qualify for SS disability. We helped a friend who has early onset Alzheimer's (she started showing symptoms at age 55) through the process and it took reams of paperwork, consultant fees, doctor input, and many months of waiting during the processing time. This person had a very sympathetic employer who turned every stone upside down to accommodate the disability and find any kind of job around the office that she could "kind of" do. Most employers wouldn't have gone to that extent.

The ca$h was OK until LBJ stole it all and used it to buy votes back in the 60’s.

RE:”Medicare's “trust fund” will run out of money by 2030 — a mere 15 years from now. And that's if all goes well. Social Security's “Trust Fund” will run dry by 2036 — again, if all goes well.”

Trust Fund? HAHA

That nest egg is just worthless IOUs from one part of the federal government to another. That $$$ was spent as soon as it was collected. Any $$$ used from the 'trust' fund requires the treasury to borrow it.

A Liberal Democrat explains the why the Social Security Trust Fund is safe

They can kick the can down the road several more decades by lifting the current cap on payroll taxes and implementing a Tobin Tax on Wall Street to supplement it.

It will be highly popular.
It will pass.
Lots of Republicans will vote yea.

Just want to be able to say that I warned you.

The only ‘social security’ dems care about is ‘disability’... cause that’s what keeps Detroit and Chicago’s South Side in their drugs of choice.
