Donald Trump's boisterous personality is fueling his campaign, but the billionaire businessman insists there is also a more dignified side to him.
In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Wednesday, Trump who created one of the most memorable moments of the 2016 campaign so far by sharing rival Lindsey Graham's cell phone number on national television suggested that he would shift his rhetoric as president.
"As president, you would change your tone?" Cooper asked.
"Oh, I'd think so," Trump said. "I'll change my tone."
Trump defended his recent attacks on his fellow candidates, saying he has been hitting back because he was first provoked.
"I didn't start it with Lindsey Graham. I couldn't care less about Lindsey Graham. He's registered at I think zero in the polls," Trump said. "Lindsey Graham called me a jackass. So am I supposed to say, 'Oh, it's OK'? I'm called a jackass. You have to fight back."

Possibly, he cannot support them any more. Things have become too outrageously, egregiously horrible in the leftist camp. I'm hoping a lot of lefties are changing not just their tone but their minds.
Hopefully Obola's legacy includes destruction of the Dems.
The other candidates and advocates for other less important issues should have expected this when they refused to address the invasion. This is what happens when Americans are raped, robbed, murdered, forced to move to new homes and their supposed representatives support it.
People get mad. The man said WALL and didn’t back down. So I’m not going to back down about hearing him out for a bit.
Nothing wrong with hearing him out; he’s right about immigration.
But it doesn’t qualify him for the presidency.
Why not? He’s changed everything else, including his political party, which he’s had five of since 2001.
He’s changed his mind on Obama, he’s changed his mind on health care, he’s changed his mind on taxes, he’s changed his mind on life ... why not change his tone, too?
There was a hearing yesterday on the murder of Americans by foreigners. No Trump, no hearing. The invasion is the end game. No other issue comes anywhere near it’s importance. If the other candidates want to run to the right of Trump on that issue, they win my vote. I don’t see why it’s so difficult to understand, it’s right there in front of everyone at #1 in the polls.
You didn’t have to tell me that, Mr. Trump! You can’t be as successful as you are without people skills! Personally, I think you are having a great time tearing up the political PC BS! i.e the giving folks Lindsey’s phone number. I bet you are discovering who your real friends are as well.
It’s okay. If Mr. Trump wants to show us the full spectrum of his capability, why not.
I am sure that he is a tough negotiator and does not slam people he wants to do deals with. Lots of people skills required as well as accountability - due dilligence or you can get sued in business.
That’s the person I want dealing with Putin et al.
does changing tone mean he’ll stop dying his hair?
Yes, he’ll change his tone all right, and about 90% of his currently-espoused positions.
It’s a little strange that people who can dig up every past position of Governor Walker’s that conflicts with his current policy positions are incapable of doing at least minimal digging on Trump’s political positions from the past.
Anyway, I’d bet that his change in tone has him getting along just marvelously with Reid, Pelosi, and the Obamas, should he ever be elected. In fact, I’d bet that he’s getting along with them just fine within 30 days of his dropping out of the race.
Yes, and I hoped Obama would at least do a lot to further good race relations in this country. Hoping is not a good way to pick a candidate.
Oh, stop pouring cold water on the party Colonel. He’ll implode within a month anyway.
Besides, he’s convincing a lot of the other candidates that the key to solidifying the base is to take border control absolutely seriously. Some of them already have done so, but the response to his bombast has almost certainly caused Jeb Bush some anxiety, and Rubio too.
If it makes it tougher for Bush to be nominated, it might all have been worth enduring.
Heheh...he’s even said he might cut it.
I hope he cannot support them any more...but I don’t trust Trump to lead the conservative movement (as nominee) any more than I trust someone just saved in a tent revival to be senior pastor....
actually, he’s a big big crony capitalist....
I do understand the rage, but as pissed off as you are, you only get one vote. Someone not pissed off also gets one vote. Maybe you should learn a little civics.
And yes, this is critical issue. No doubt. And yes, he’s been great on it - for a month. Cruz and Santorum (who I cannot stand) have been there for years.....just sayin......
what comment is that.....not that you have the cred to be giving grades...
I have a Masters Degree in Adult Education. This is me grading you. :-)
