"Articles like this give me new respect for my 2004 Silverado.

AFAIK, it has no connections to the outside world. If a FReeper knows different, please let me know."

Do you have an OnStar button in that truck...?

Nope. When I was looking for a Silverado, I found several that had OnStar. Rejected them out of hand.

There is an Internet of Things. But it doesn't include any of my things, other than this PC.

Even if it did, the OnStar systems of the time had an analogue/AMPS cel phone interface—Verizon was the preferred provider, and they shut down their analogue network in 2007/2008, taking down those, and anything else that ran on the analogue network. (Upgrades *were* available for some of the more recent models, but that was optional)

Also, this is why I happen to like classic vehicles. Not a single solid-state device in sight!

Installing electronic control systems, therefore, is at MY discretion. If the need arose, I could engineer a system from the ground up, optimised for maximum security.
