IJReview ^ | 7/19/2015 | Kenny Wassus

During a recent Republican presidential forum, Donald Trump disparaged Senator John McCain’s war record, claiming that McCain is “not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

And the Internet responded, surfacing a photo that some are calling the perfect comeback and reminder of McCain’s service to his country.

What did McCain do that was “heroic”?

Oooh, let met answer that... He destroyed FIVE jet airplanes, so he is an Ace pilot!!! * That makes him a hero, right? What a Man!!!

*The five planes destroyed were all ours so technically he is an Ace for the other side. Oops.

And Trump doesn’t know the media is out to get him?

Sorry. I still support Trump. I still support the ticket in my tagline... but I believe this is a rookie mistake on Trump’s part. A big huge rookie mistake.

Simple. Because he fought back.

Correct. In other words, his act of heroism was enduring torture and imprisonment. While that was awful, don’t we usually consider acts to be heroic when the person has a choice, and chooses the course that puts a greater good or the welfare of another over that of ones self.

If a person is falsely imprisoned for a crime they did not commit, we don’t call them a hero.

One reason I am not a Trump fan, but I think this is a case of ‘pot’ and ‘kettle’.

Please check me: But McCain was an admiral’s son, and the grandson of a WWII admiral aviator ...

But he crashed one jet in training, blew up two on the aircraft carrier with his missile, burned his own on the flight deck, and lost his fourth jet over enemy territory.

Damn near an “ace.” For the other side.

Oh. And John Kerry had all of 92 days in Vietnam - several of those on leave and on R&R in Saigon. Then he left Vietnam after 3 months to return to his Senator’s office in Massachusetts to help that re-election.

Personally I think I would be embarrassed if I were captured, tortured & released and someone called me a 'hero'. Thank me for my sacrifice and let it go at that.

Spoken like a real man. There are a hell of a lot of men like you who believe as you do.

The quote I saw was ‘McCain is a war hero because he was captured. I like (heroes) who weren’t captured.’ Yep. Easy to agree with. But McCain IS a hero because he was given the chance to be freed as the son of an admiral (for NVN propaganda purposes) and he refused to be released. THAT was heroic in anybody's book, even if he is an a** for name calling patriots as Hobbits and crazies.

“his treatment of POWs/MIAs has been questionable for years, and there is evidence he’s suppressed information or hindered actions to search for and recover POWs (if any are still alive), or MIAs”.

What Vietnam vets, including POWs think of the old RINO.

That’s when he became a democrat war hero. Four democrats needed McCain to play ball to give them cover for Keating, so he served the Democrat party with honor.

“and he refused to be released.”

Have you thought about this? How does on “refuse” to be released?

The flip side to how one refuses to be captured?

This stuff always rankles with me. McCain is not the only war hero but we hear about it on and on for years. His track record in the Senate is less than heroic, but his service is always brought up. Take a look at many many other war heroes with one leg/one arm as an example. We never hear about them much by name. But we hear about Gabby Giffords ad nauseam at one time as if those who lost their lives or were wounded that day aren’t as important as her because they are not “famous” or in government. Or the heroes who fought in Viet Nam for our country only to return to be despised. Where’s the no go zone for them? There are many more war heroes than McCain without the years of recognition he’s had so maybe he should just get over a few improperly worded statements.

Thin skinned little hobbit. /s

You should listen to what your brother's shipmates have said and what the investigators found. I would think you'd have more curiosity about the truth but it seems you are the phony.

USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier Disaster

There is no possible way McCain can be faulted for what happened that day.

McCain served his country well in the Navy...then turned to instant shi’ite as a senator.
