Face it, if our economy tanks, all talk of social conservatism, war heroism and just about any other topic will be subsumed to how to fight off the opportunists who take over — either China or ISIS.

There are times in history, and this is one of those times, when a person with the skills and experience to save the economy and uphold the overarching American traditions has the most compelling appeal. If Trump should by chance win, he will focus on the economy and a kind of basic decency, letting the best fighters in society at large sort out the less pressing issues, like the 1% of the population who actually will “gay marry.”

When people have jobs and money and relative freedom from disaster, they are better able to fight for social issues, respect for war heros and all the other niceties. But the time for playing nice about the leaks in our Titanic ship of state is long over, and until so-called conservatives recognize that we are in a war like no other, being fought like no other in history — being fought in the media and in the economy — we will lose our country, and all your pressing concerns along with it. Given the speed of the administration’s establishment of the worldwide caliphate, you may soon be forced to wear a dress and grow a beard (if you’re a man) and wear the headscarf and stay in the house (if you’re a woman) if we cannot secure the next election.

Identify the problem correctly, that we are in a deathly war on the economy and we are losing — and then identify the one with the experience, guts and skills to address that problem. Getting media attention is a very important skill in this new battleground.

Trump has that skill, and years of insulation built up around him. Let him roll his courage out and help change the conversation from PC nonsense, Alinsky lies and DoubleSpeak, and see if Cruz can rise to prominence as the ground is cleared by Trump. Cruz is doing well so far with the judiciousness of his responses. Give this some time. Trump is helping the nation.

Your arrogance is showing, also your juvenile habit of failing to capitalize proper names. I noticed it with Reagan and you continue with McCain and Trump. Didn’t anyone ever teach you proper grammar?

REALLY? Funny that I don’t get the same read. Furthermore, we are still very early in the game and trying to snark off a man who is driving the liberals crazy is the wrong game to play. Right or wrong, Trump is digging up some skeletons which have been buried by the MSM for far too long.

“”” it took courage to crawl into the cockpit of that aircraft, and fly it into combat. period. end of statement.”””

So you are saying that anyone who flew a plane, drove a tank, fired a gun or did a myriad of other military tasks in combat took courage. Since millions of men and now women have done those acts before and after McCain, it does not make McCain special.

it's unsurprising, but you're sounding like a democrat in order to defend your democrat.

Actually Trump gave a pretty rousing defense of the 2nd Amendment several weeks ago and carries himself.

YUP, He says all the right things -BUT- He’s a milquetoast speaker, boring to listen to, boring to watch and he always looks disheveled.

I heard Cruz in a relatively small group (maybe 75). He was very good. Spoke without notes. I don't see him (yet) as having that "celebrity" factor, although he has a great sense of humor about the poster with him tatooed and smoking.

My concern is that however weak ideologically Trump is on a lot of issues---vs. how incredibly strong Cruz is---we simply are in a different era. An era of celebrity. THIS is why Trump is surging. It's that he says something very straightforward, with no obfuscations or political double-talk and it is sent out immediately and is picked up everywhere. Cruz can say much the same thing, but toned down in a little more Washington-ese, and people say "huh?" It will be a hard primary vote for me.

You know Albion, you're right. I think back to Lincoln (and no, I'm not comparing Trump to Lincoln), but if I were a voter in 1860, I would have disagreed with Lincoln on tariffs, on the national bank, on internal improvements . . . but I would have voted for him on the ONE issue that overrode all others. Slavery.

We have a couple of those issues now (unfortunately, Zero has done such a good job of destroying America it's hard to narrow down to one). However, I think probably THE biggest threat to this nation is illegal immigration and amnesty. It touches on national security, the economy with bankrupted cities and states, education---virtually everything except maybe homosexuality and abortion.

So if someone can actully FIX---not talk about, but fix---this problem and the economic and national security problems that come with it, yep he has my vote.

Our hero at a McCain campaign rally pretending to campaign to be President 2008:

"you don't have to be scared of Sen. Obama as President."

STFU Mitt. You choked and McCain threw it.

McCain got tortured for 5 years in Viet Nam and then came home and has been torturing the republican base for 30 plus years.

BS. While a POW makes you a POW it does not necessarily make you a WAR HERO.

McCain interjected himself into this by calling his own constituents “crazies” b/c they wanted to see Trump’s speech. He was also an avid supporter of ISIS and handed the presidency to Obama especially when he declared that we had nothing to fear about Obama being president. Oh, and he’s talked smack about his own former running mate on numerous occasions.

He’s due for a little smacking around.
