We’ve been subsidizing the poor all along.
I don’t recall poor dying in the streets because they couldn’t get into a hospital.
Hospitals were forced to charge higher amounts to their paying customers to make up for all those without insurance.
True but it's been off-book. I say, confess to the backdoor healthcare subsidies and make it official. Instead of dismantling the free market, co-exist with the poor. As you said, we already do it and pay more because of the ERs, (hospital costs) Obamacare, and Medicaid.
And if the government really wants to have a seat at the table, cap the damn insurance companies. They're the big business behind Obamacare.
