No, I understand—I meant it’s the start of the Eid holiday. All of my Gulf colleagues had a one-week holiday for Eid.

Well, you may have meant it, but posting it as a correction to my comment about Ramadan is still an incorrect “correction”, because though it may be an Eid (generic celebration), it is “actually” (the term you first used to supposedly correct me) the end of Ramadan, too.

This is a particular Eid — Eid al-Fitr. There are roughly half-a-dozen religious Eids in Islam (depending on if a Muslim is Shia or not). Eids are also how birthdays are celebrated. This Eid is a religious one that marks the END of the month of Ramadan daytime fasting.
