One item of note - he comes from Latin America, where those countries have practiced a feudalism for centuries that locked their citizens into a perpetual serfdom, in extreme poverty. The rich and the mafia rule, that is how it has been, that is how it will stay and that is why Latin America does not progress like the US. That is why they come to America in droves, they are tired of slavery.

South America suffers from an authoritarian mindset that has religious origins. Someone must be in charge is the way they see and accept things. I was somewhat surprised to learn that Brazil, upon gaining its independence from Portugal, installed an Emperor. A republic came later, but after the second emperor. Latin America’s romance with dictators borders on a religious belief. It sure seems Latin politics and religion are very closely related.
