At this point I consider myself a ‘Reaganist’ more than anything. But I still ‘bitterly cling’ to ‘Conservative’ just because in conversations, it’s hard enough to get people to deal with the basics of that and agree most of the time. Plenty here seem to think one can be a conservative while vocally backing abortion funding Gay marriage in America founders.

Yup, and there’s plenty here who call themselves conservatives who don’t get the too-many-laws thing or the $3-trillion-unconstitutional-federal-tyranny thing.

I think people need to hold on more desperately to the text of the Constitution as originally understood and intended, than to whatever their pet doctrine might be.

The Constitution is the only legal bulwark between our liberty and federal tyranny.
