At the minimum, the SCOTUS judges he (Cruz) would nominate would be worlds better than the SCOTUS judges that "The Donald" would nominate.

That would be a perfect waste of the Leadership abilities of Ted Cruz, the fidelity to conservative principles, and a complete understanding and fidelity to the US Constitution by Ted Cruz.

Why put a "half-baked" sorta conservative like Donald Trump in the POTUS chair, when you already have a perfectly good, committed, and complete conservative like Ted Cruz ready, able, and available?
