Donald Trump is now the super-hawk on immigration. It wasnt always so, and not so long ago. A Newsmax article from November 2012 on his views on what went wrong in the election is making the rounds. Back then, Trumps view on immigration was utterly conventionalhe wanted a comprehensive solution to accommodate immigrants who want to be wonderful productive citizens, and thought Romneys policy of attrition (infamously described as self-deportation) was maniacal and mean-spirited

Everybody’s got an opinion.
So back to 2012, Mitt was too aggressive on immigration for Donald? Hmmm....(told you so moment)
He said a LOT of “interesting” things in 2011-12 campaign season.
Who is he ringing for?
Even now Trump says hard-working illegals can stay (according to another thread on FR).
Once again, who is Trump “ringing for”?
The situation has changed quite a bit science 2012!
if it weren’t for trump the media would have buried the illegal killing the woman in San Fran.
If Trump only shines a spotlight on illegals and their criminal behavior that will still have been more than the cowardly republican congress (with the exception of ted cruz) has done in the last 8 years or more.
Tell us your candidate that would send them all back, please?
Tell us your candidate that would send them all back, please?
Yep. He’s bringing focus to the subject but he’s no better than the other RINOs.
This shows Trump’s words mean nothing. Taking what he says at face value is a mistake. Thinking he is fighting for this country is wrong.
How?
You’ve got it backwards. That story would have blown up if Trump wasn’t absorbing all the attention for himself.
Guess it’s time to stop sending these bow tie wearing csuckers the $1.50 a week or whatever it is they charge.
NR has devolved into a WASHINGTONIAN centered bird cage liner, every issue sucks worse than the last.
NATIONAL REVIEW, YOU’RE FIRED!!!!
Trump’s tough talk has been about securing the border against illegal entrants, and about how dangerous the border is in many ways. All the above is about illegals already in the US.
But none of that will matter. Trump will win more supporters or not depending on how well he presents the illegal immigration and giveaway trade agreement issues this election cycle. People are listening and he has to make the case this cycle.
No one but Jeff Sessions, that I can think of, has been rock solid and consistent on the illegal immigration issue since W started trying to force it in 2006 (after campaigning against amnesty in 2004).
Sort of like John Bonehead and Mitch McConnell words mean nothing?
In that respect, Trump is no worse than your buddies Bonehead and McConnell.
Expecting Donald Trump to be politically consistent is like expecting Bill Clinton to be faithful to his marital vows.
Are your words the same as one, two, three, four to ten or twenty or thirty years ago? What do your words mean- today? Now, in this moment?
What he’s saying is that they didn’t attack Romney over immigration in 2012.
