While he was renovating....on his show, he kept referring to it as *Whiteport* ...cracked me up every time.
When I was in Portland I had just crossed a street when on corner I had left, a guy got up out of his wheelchair to beat the crap out of someone who was daring to beg on his corner, I felt more concerned walking around Portland than I did in areas of downtown L.A. that I considered bad.
Whenever you hear of a violent crime in Portland it is a safe bet it is in a “diverse” part of town. Gun crime stats follow that dotted map almost 100%.

Seattle is pretty white but there are some surprising twists.

What this doesn’t say is that 18% of the population is foreigners - a mix of eastern Europeans, Asians and middle-easterners.
That depends on who’s on the ballot. Al Gore got 90% of the black vote in 2000.
Black voter turnout as a percentage of eligible voters exceeded white turnout for the first time in history in 2012.
If Latinos were to turn out in proportion to their percentage of the population, they would go from 10% of voters in 2012 to 17% in 2016 which could more than make up for any reduction in black voter turnout.
That’s not true for Asians. They have higher median household incomes ($66,000) than whites ($57,000) and all other minorities.
Isn’t Portland the city where a Trader Joe’s wanted to locate a new store in a black hood and was told by he community they were not wanted because it wold cause whites to move into the area?

No longer Burnside, think its MLK Ave. Grew up in Clark County, WA in the 60s. We had one black student in my entire high school class. Outside of the old Burnside district, the city of Portland was lily white.
Think I was wrong. Back in the day it was Williams avenue that was pretty much the black area of Portland. Burnside black population developed after I left in the mid 60s.
