How many saw all of that had gained and more wiped out by the Civil War, along with those who had never owned slaves? I don't see how that is relevant to what the article at the top of this thread is saying. Regardless it's hard to drum up a lot of sympathy for those who started the war and then lost it.

The Northern states benefitted indirectly from slavery just as your family members benefitted from your Father's car. The difference is the people in the North who built vast fortunes for themselves and their progeny trading in the commodities of slavery got to keep theirs.
